Drinking after gallbladder removal...

Can someone (anyone!) clue me in as to what I can drink now my gallbladder has been removed? I don't mean alcohol as I've already asked the doctor that, but more day today drinks.

Food wise, I think I have it sussed, but at the moment when we eat out, I'm limiting myself to water or (if I'm lucky and they have it!) a fruit juice.

I know that when I had gallstones, I was told to avoid things like lattes, fizzy juice etc, and it was possible but now I'd like to get back to normal - but equally I don't want to have ill effects!

TIA!

I had my gallbladder out 5 years ago - I eat and drink everything and have never had any problems. Have you asked your GP? Has he recommended you avoid anything? If not I'd say just have whatever you feel like!

Yeah, we discussed food, and it was a case of eat what you like but beware that if you eat a really fatty dish then it may not digest IYSWIM. Also to reintroduce fats gradually so my body gets used to dealing with fat again.

Just didn't think to ask about drinks... will try fizzy stuff at home first just in case I think! Grin

Like a few other people here I have acid problems, so I avoid citrus juices - but I drink everything else (non alcoholic).

Weird. Citrus causes me no issues... Just goes to show how people are the same, but different! Wink

Anyway, tried crisps successfully yesterday so will have a go with fizzy juice today - Irn Bru... I've missed you! Grin

Glad I found this thread. I am having my gallbladder out on Wednesday. I don't really drink anything other than water, coffee and the occasional diet coke, but I do like a couple of glasses of red wine with dinner at the weekend, so would be interested to know if that is something I can go back to.

Fuzzled , how long ago was your op and how do you feel? I am really looking forward to a jacket poatato after 3 weeks of jam sandwiches - although, even they are starting to cause flare ups now.

bluddymofo Grin love your username. Thanks, I think you're right. Once I have recovered, I'll take it easy and try different things. I have heard so many stories, from people that have gone back to their original diet with no problems to some that haven't been able to tolerate fat or alcohol since.

Bearskinwoolies · 14/11/2011 15:18

I wish MoFo - I'm on the ultra low fat & no alcohol (ever) diet Sad

Bambino I had mine out on Saturday 5th (so just over a week!) as an emergency job as mine perforated Confused Previously, it had been flaring up since the end of September.

I was admitted to hospital on the Friday out of my head with pain (my GP ordered an ambulance to take me and asked them to blue light me as she was so worried!) and was done just after lunchtime on the Saturday. As it was perforated, I was in until the Monday as I was on intravenous antibiotics, but felt fine on the Sunday. Luckily, they still managed to take it out keyhole rather than a full cut.

I'm back to normal foodwise (more or less!) but I am taking things that I'm wary about gently - for example, I had a packet of crisps yesterday (a flare up cause previously) so I ensured that everything else eaten around that time was plain food so that I could identify "problem foods" - as yet I haven't found anything, but not quite ready for a fish supper just yet! Blush

I discussed food with my consultant and alcohol Wink but omitted to talk about drinks that I was told to avoid when I was having flare ups - like lattes and coke (not together!) so thought I'd ask.

I can safely say that, based on previous levels of pain, having the op was the best thing ever.

I am now driving again and I can lift my son (although DH and DF are frowning when I do!) again and as of last night, I can lie on my side again. I think that, give it another week, and I'll be back to normal.
