Knees hurt and very weak 15 weeks after giving birth and breeding

i had my ds 15 weeks ago and am exclusively breast feeding. I have about 6 pounds left to lose to go back to my normal weight of 7 and a half stone (so not carrying excess weight which is relevant for this topic ). I am struggling to get up when I have been changing ds on the floor, I look like an old woman that needs a stick. It is very bad when I have to get out of bed in the night too. My ankles are stiff also and my hops a little bit.
I have read that it can be to do with your hormones but just wondered if anyone else has experience of this or could give me hope that this might get better. I worry at times that I might drop little one as my knees and ankles feel so weird, hurt and are weak.

If I were feeing like that, I'd check it out with the GP. Have you been?

darn, i only came on to see whether "breeding" meant having sex pmsl.

i'm afraid i don't know the answer to your question though, but it sounds really horrible to live with. would definitely go and see the GP if you haven't already

I had this whilst ebfing DD. It mostly affected my knees, kind of felt like the bottoms of my legs weren't properly attached and I really struggled to eg carry her downstairs. I think it began to get better about 4 months in and was a lot better by 9 months.

I never really found out what caused it but I asume it was some sort of relaxin related effect. It came back a bit after I had DS, but not so badly, maybe because I had an elcs and so didn't go into labour

Thanks for those answers, I had an emergency c section and a general anaesthetic too so not sure if that had anything to do with it as I blew up like a balloon after. I knew I was stressing my ankles in the first week due to not being able to find a comfortable position to breast feed, but it's not that now. I personally think it's to do with hormones but not sure. Perhaps I should go and see the gp. My gp has told me I have to move surgery as out of area now so I've been putting it off. Feels like I have enough on my plate.

I felt pretty rough for a long time after my em c-section. I think sometimes it just does take a long time to recover.

You'll need to register LO with GP anyway won't you [unhelpful emoticon]

I don't know if this is of any relevance whatsoever but I get pains in the knees at my period - just the hormone thing rang a bell

Two of us in my NCT group had this - like a weird stiffness/weakness in knees and ankles, especially if we had had a rest, or sat down for 30 minutes to breastfeed. I used to almost stumble getting up afterwards, and when DD used to cry in the middle of the night I used to leap from the bed and do this weird speed hobbling motion to get to her. My wrists used to hurt a bit as well, but not nearly as much

Anyway, my doctor said it should be gone by 6 months post birth, and that it was due to hormones, all the relaxing of ligaments and things in preparation for birth etc. And she was right, it was virtually gone for both of us by 6 months.

Hope you feel better soon.

Onlyaphase thank you, you have given me hope. Getting out of bed in the middle of the night is hell, I stumble, and I dread having to move at all. My hips and wrists hurt too but the knees and ankles the worst.
I am almost at 4 months now so hopefully it will pass soon.

I've had bad knees after all mine (have 3) Had dc3 6.5 months ago and have just realised haven't had the wierd knee pains for a couple of weeks. Its generally when I've been sitting down for a while (which doesn't happen very often!)
I'm sure they were gone by 6 months with the other 2 as well.
