Please help! I am in so much pain with my jaw / head

Hi there, been seeing a chiro as have had a lot of jaw probs since DS born 9mths ago. Chiro said my jaw had been misaligned alongside my pelvis post birth, and he did some aggressive manipulation on my jaw on Tues. Since then I've been suffering absolutely agonising headaches starting in the base of my skull / top of neck. Had emergency appt with chiro yday and he said my gravity line has shifted and that area is inflamed / spasming. He tried to reduce the spasming yday but to no avail and I am still in agony. Got another appt with him later + waiting for GP to call me back to arrange emergency appt. On the v strong 342mg Nurofen for tension headaches; takes the edge off but not much more. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows anything about this I'd appreciate any advice. Presumably I am looking for a specialist referral from the GP (but dont even know what type of specialist I need!!) alongside some serious anti-inflammatories ... any advice would be fantastic!!! Thanks

hmm I think he has injured you rather than your "gravity line shifting"..i'd be wary of him tbh

Sorry to hear you are suffering as a TN and migraine sufferer I can relate to you head, jaw pain I see a cranial osteopath I found it to be alot more helpful than a chiro, and would recommend it, also go back to gp and get stronger pain relief you can actually use codeine paracetomal and diclofenic together it will space you out but will help with pain more efficiently.

fanjo I was thinking the same

Thanks that's helpful re pain relief ... hmm yes it does sound dodgy on paper, for what it's worth I think he is the real deal - but am seriously wondering if he knows what he's doing with this latest turn of events. Re the pain relief - sounds like I can't really take that stuff unless I have someone else helping me with my baby? Don't like the idea of being spaced out while looking after him - not that I am that much good to him right now! Will try cranial osteopathy thanks

Oh yes Is probably registered etc but just not the right type of treatment for your pain IMO

Just spoke to GP who is giving me Diazepam which he said should help the spasming ... thanks for the advice

I can answer this as a registered complimentary therapist - but please also seek your GPs advice. Most 'adjustments' done physically during a session can produce a little discomfort usually passing over a 24/48 hour period at the most. You should normally be made aware of any possible side-effects at the end of a session. Discomfort should not feel like something that you cannot cope with. I cannot comment on your chiropractor; but it sounds like you pain may be lasting a little to long and overly painful. Any manipulation to the jaw should be performed in a way that does not hurt areas to the back of the head/neck as there are nerves, your brain stem and your brain centres for gross bodily movement there. I am tending on the side of injury too. I would not be seeing the practitioner again until a doctor has checked you out. Compensatory treatments should only be practiced in accordance with medical advice and once the original pain has subsided - not to re-right 'shifted gravity lines'. Hope this helps

Also - I'm sure you have done; but have you asked for his credentials, the professional body he is registered with, their code of practice....?
