Does my son really need glasses?

5 year old DS was diagnosed at spec savers as being .5 and .75 so very slightly long sighted. The optician says he needs to wear glasses at school and when reading. Does this sound right or are they just trying to sell more glasses?

You won't pay for them (unless you just mean SpecSavers claiming back from NHS) If in doubt, try an independent optician. You still won't pay the first £40

Non designer kids glasses are usually covered by the NHS. So more than likely you won't be paying for them. I would get them, and see if your son thinks they help with his school work. Also because your son is 5, if he breaks/loses his glasses he can have as many replacements as he needs on the NHS (if the glasses are covered by the NHS).

I doublet they are trying to sell more glasses although the test could be inaccurate. Get a second opinion or see an optometrist via gp?

Thank you , I don't think they can harm his eyesight and he is very excited about it, so will go ahead and see how he gets on with his school work
