My poor husband has very very bad chicken pox (courtesy of our two beautiful children). He's still very ill and has hundreds of now crusting spots, many on his face and scalp which are causing him agony.

I think between the anti-virals, piriton, various painkiller, calamine aqueous, calamin glycerin, eucarin, sudocrem, sodium bicarbonate baths, cold compresses, oat baths etc. he's trying everything he can to alleviate his pain, fever and discomfort. Speaking again to the GP we're hoping he's just passed the peak and he should start to be more comfortable.

He's far from a vain man but he does have to go out in public and has his own business to run, can anyone please suggest a good facial moisturiser, for when his skin is less aggravated, that I can buy to promote healing / reduce scarring and a body lotion. I was thinking bio-oil for his body?

Thank you!

Keep the calamine off his face as it can contribute to scarring. Don't use Eucerin on broken or inflamed skin. I'd hold off on the topicals for now, let the skin breathe, crust, and heal. When all spots have dried out, begin the bio-oil from the neck down (if you can stand the smell). Your best bet for the face post-pox IME is rosehip oil - read up on the evidence. Trilogy is a good brand. You could also try silicone sheets overnight. Don't forget healing from the inside. Plenty of protein, and supplements or foods with vit A/beta-carotene, vit C, vit D, vit E, selenium and zinc.

Thanks for your help Dearth, I'll look up your suggestions, he's already doing Berroca too boost his immune system and he's generally pretty good at looking after himself (when in the right frame of mind!). My husband has stopped putting anything on his skin except sudocrem on most painful bits, he feels his skin needs to breathe as you said.

My DH was riddled with chickenpox a few years back, both externally and internally. He must have 100's all over and he has barely got any scars and never used any creams.

Thanks Tink123

I just checked if my husband needed anything and he asked for a new face! Bless him, I'll let him know all may be well. Thanks

Aveeno cream has an oat base I think. It's very soothing and keeps skin well moisturised.

Would Arnica cream help?
