IBS attack and exhaustion

Yesterday was at a meeting in Central London when IBS reared up its head: bloating, gassy, pain etc. Had to try and maintain a semblance of normality as I was at a swanky agency. Couldn't wait for meeting to end.

Got on the train where the pain intensified and my whole body was frozen and shaking. Thought I was going to faint. Got off train and sat on freezing platform wondering what to do. Eventually staggered out into the road and got on a bus which got stuck in traffic for 35 mins (should have been a 10 min journey). All the time I am wondering am I going to vomit or sh1t myself.
Then my whole body just goes saggy and sweat is pouring down me, everything is going black and I hear a whooosh whooooosh in my ears. Do slow breathing and try and lift my legs up because this is basically a fainting sensation.
Alight from bus and stagger home. The relief of collapsing on to the bed is indescribable. A mountain of wind comes out and I eventually start feeling normal again.
Today I am EXHAUSTED. I can barely walk around my house, I don't want to have a shower or do any work.

Does anyone else get IBS as bad as this? I am at the end of my tether. And is it normal to be soooo tired after an attack?

didn't want to read and run - is this a recurrent thing? I get IBS which is part of having ME, so your thread title 'pricked my ears up', so to speak. I get the whole dizziness/vomit/shit yourself thing, and obviously spend most of my life with debilitating fatigue. Night sweats are part of it too, so it might be worth looking up - but DEFINITELY go to your GP about this - I just hope they're more understanding than mine! :o

Thanks Witcha

Well I went to my GP back when I was 15 and was referred to a gastroenterologist who did endoscopy and colonoscopy, found nothing wrong and diagnosed IBS. So that was half a lifetime ago :-)

Sometimes it's fine, I get an attack like yesterday's maybe every 4 or 5 months but general gassiness, bloating and diarrhoea regularly. Much worse with periods.

I do get nightsweats as well but usually when I am lying too close to DH who is a radiator!

I dont get IBS as bad as you do, but an attack does make me feel very very tired and washed out. I usually sleep solid for a good 12 hours or so, once the pain has gone off a little. (But that could be the anti-spasmodic's the doc gave me!!!! :P )

I also find that my insides feel sore iyswim?

If it continues I would get yourself back to the docs just in case.

Hope your feeling better soon. Get some rest, it seems to help x
