WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

I have to have my lower right hand and upper left hand wisdom teeth removed (under general anaesthetic). How long did it take you to recover from? I am a bit of a fainter and my DH works away. The way his shift pattern looks he would only be home for 1 week with me then I'd just have to get on with looking after the kids myself. Any of your experiences would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I had my lower right removed under a local. It took 30 mins of chipping and cutting but it was worth it.

Took codeine / paracetamol for a few days. Got the most impressive bruising and swelling down my neck as well.

Since then I've not had any problems in the area, it's lovely to not feel the pressure all the time. Mine was on a nerve too, so possible complications, but no problems.

I had mine done in about 1995. I was supposed to be having four out but they only found three Confused Anyway I spent one night in hospital and they made me eat breakfast before I could leave (difficult). It took a few days to recover-my neck was bruised and I was on codeine for the pain. I imagine things have improved since then though. I think after a week you will be ok.

DS had all four of his out under general. IIRC his face was bruised and very swollen for about a week - 10 days, - they were badly impacted though.

He spent about 3-4 days on the sofa moaning, then he started to function again Grin - but it is quite sore, - so get plenty of easy to eat food in (DS lived on mashed potato with cheese in it and warm soup)

You just reminded me Kurri I did have the 'hamster face' and eating wasn't pleasant for a few days.

Great thanks all. Top one will be easy to remove but the lower right is very near the nerve and sitting awkwardly. I shall have the smoothies and milkshakes at the ready Smile

One good tip is to grease your lips with vaseline just before going down to theatre, this will help your lips being more flexible and will help prevent tearing which can feel very sore.

I had to have all four out under GA. Warned them beforehand I do not react well to anaesthetic and they gave me a little pill to take. Fast forward to recovery room, anaesthetist tries to wake me up at face level, I turn to look at him and vom ... right in his face Blush

I was due to be discharged at lunchtime but ended up coming out tea time. I was bruised and swollen for several days (and a bit off me head to be honest). The op was on the Monday and I was back at work the following Monday - still quite swollen, but the bruising had gone by then.

rumpel my lower right was on the nerve too. When the surgeon whipped it out the roots had a groove along them where they had always grown against the nerve, he was showing me them afterwards.

He even called me in the evening to check the feeling had come back and I was ok. No nerve damage at all Smile.
