Ovarian/burst cyst pain??

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help with this please?
3 nights ago while lying on my right side in bed I experienced what started as a dull throbbing above my hip, it intensified quickly and became a sort of bursting pain, excruciatingly painful (I've had 3 children naturally so have experienced pain). It passed after a few minutes but that whole area since has been tender to touch. I have been experiencing right sided pain on and off for months but assumed it might be peri-menopause ovulation pain (!!). I've never had ov pain before ever.
I had a scan in Feb and they said there were no cysts or endometriosis etc but could one have grown in the last few months and burst? I am having endometrial ablation next week as periods have been awful for ages.
Has anyone had any similar experiences?
Thank you

Endometriosis is not detected on any internal ultrasound scan so this itself cannot be ruled out. It needs to be properly looked for; endo is usually only diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

I would try and contact the gynae if you are already under the care of such a person and let this person know of this recent development particularly as you have had right sided pain for months.

Generally speaking any pain that is cyclical in nature or becomes worse up to and including menses should be further evaluated properly by a gynae to see if endo is present.

I had similar pains which turned out to be a ruptured cyst. It had grown incredibly quickly according to the surgeon - it was also huge (6 cups of fluid - boak!). Hopefully next week's investigations will throw something up - however if it has ruptured then it may be difficult to spot - it took 3 days in hospital to finally work out what my bits were up to!

I conceived DS 3 months later too!!

I've had a couple of large ovarian cysts, both were removed surgically, I've also got severe endometriosis and have had my left ovary and fallopian tube removed because of that. I sound a bit of an old wreck.....!

Anyhoo, as Attila says endo cannot be diagnosed by a scan, only a laparoscopy will find it.

I had occassional bouts of severe pain caused by the cysts - that's how my first one was found as my GP sent me for a lap. The pain wasn't as you described though, it was much lower down, a constant intense pain and was so painful i couldn't stand. Doesn't mean you don't have a cyst though.....The gynae who treated me said a ruptured cyst is a medical emergency and if untreated can be very serious, so if you are otherwise feeling ok now it suggests the cyst hasn't burst.

What you describe sounds like a burst cyst. I had one and it was so painful I called 999 Blush as I had no idea what it was, but the pain woke me up and had the same pattern as you describe.
Interested they said it was a medical emergency, polly. I was just sent on my way after hanging round A & E for four hours.

racing - maybe it depends on the size/type of cyst? The gynae who told me that had seen from a scan that the cyst i had was grapefruit-sized - I just remember him saying that if a cyst bursts, all the gunk that's in it can casue infection, so it needs to be dealt with.

cause, even...

also meant to add racing - don't worry about the 999 bit, one of my friends in a nurse and when she worked in A&E a few years ago said that severe, unexplained abdominal pain was one of the most common causes of admission in women.
