No, but you might like to run screaming out of the house and don't return until it's over? Perhaps call in rentokill?

Ds had worms a few weeks ago. Yesterday he saw a worm on the pavement and he asked what it was (having only seen them wriggling in the soil before). "A worm" I said. "I wonder who's bottom it fell out of," he replied. Grin

DeWe · 03/11/2011 20:24

That's "whose" not "who's"...

girliefriend · 03/11/2011 20:25

Burn things?!! Grin

Get some tablets from the chemist, then start washing everything all bedding, p.js, any soft toys that he cuddles a lot, also give the bathroom a good blitz, make sure your son is washing hands well after going to the loo, wear pants to bed for a bit, ummm think thats about it!

PavlovtheCat · 03/11/2011 20:26

wash all bedding, give him course of worm tablets from gp, and give it to the whole family too (gp will give you two doses for everyone in house) use his own towel and do not share, proper wash before/after bed. Pants/jimjams in bed for a couple of weeks, trim nails and remember hand washing after loo. Bleach toilet if not already done.

DD had it, and had it for a while before I realised. I washed all bedding and jimjams, and did as above. Did not wash bears etc as there are soooo many.

I gave one dose, and the second two weeks later. Done. Takes 2-3 days for symptoms of it to disappear.

I freaked when DD had it. I looked. With her being a girl, that is ^not pleasant. But, it was not so bad as it went with meds straight away. Not been back since.

girliefriend · 03/11/2011 20:26

Oh and that goes for everyone in the house not just your son!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/11/2011 20:27

Pants to bed
Short fingernails (to avoid scratching and transferring - naice!)
Medication for ALL of you (my GP gave us enough for all 3 of us on DS prescription, so free)
Boil wash all bedding and towels, wash all soft toys, bath every night.

fun tiems.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2011 20:29

Bugger.

Burn things!! I thought you meant the worms!! Bit drastic not to mention painful!
They are not as bad as you think. Quite easy to get rid of and keep away.
Poor you, its such a shock and you do feel like a failure/crap parent. I know Ive been there!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2011 20:29

Do I need to tell school?

PavlovtheCat · 03/11/2011 20:32

chaos they spread so easily, it is a wonder that any children make it through school without getting at least one bout of it. Another MNer recommended worming the children like dogs/cats - every 3 months, regardless of whether they have it or not. I am tempted...

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/11/2011 20:36

short fingernails and tight pants. Seriously.

Is it me or is it mostly boys that get this? Are they more prone to arse scratching? Confused

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2011 20:36

I have duck tape.

And I'm not afraid to use it.

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/11/2011 20:38

rofl at duck tape Grin

FlyingPirates · 03/11/2011 20:38

Grin @ Oh arse. When talking about worms.

Sorry. I am easily amused!

ballstoit · 03/11/2011 20:39

I did tell them when DD1 got them...and asked them to put some soap in the toilets as there was none Hmm

Overall, I'd be relieved that DS is not a DD, the night waking with itchy bits was a joy.

Only other suggestion I have is to put Sudocreme or Vaseline around his 'hole' (or get him to do it if he's too old to want you to) as the worms get stuck to it and can't crawl and lay their eggs on clothes and bedclothes. Would do 2nd lot of tablets after 2 weeks even if they appear to have gone as it only takes one live one to reinfect.

Enjoy!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2011 20:42

Oh I have exponentially sudocremed the octohatch.

Doctors tomorrow.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/11/2011 20:43

AAAAHHH OCTOHATCH! GrinGrin

Wink
bugsylugs · 03/11/2011 20:48

If you cannot get into dr can buy same meds over the counter not expensive. Need to wash towels etc on hot. As all the others have said. no real need to tell school prob where he got it from. scratching bum occurs most at night as the eggs and surrounding gloop is an irritant to make you itch to spread.
Just to chear you up eggs very resiliant can live for months on door handles etc haa haa

Witchofthenorth · 03/11/2011 20:50

I remember when DD had them and I went to chemist and got the tablets, unfortunately she did not have the same sense of humour as me as when I told her I was going to get the flame thrower out for the bed sheets and teddies whilst running a bleach bath for me (I was pregnant and couldn't take the tablets) she was inching towards telephone with ss on speed dial :)

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 03/11/2011 21:33

Ovex from Boots is ace. Sorts them right out. Everyone gets them at some point.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2011 21:37

As much as I would like to claim octohatch as my own.

It was from the "Please remove your book from my knickers DS" Classic.

TeeBeeThu 26-May-11 09:53:14

Oh, and said daily:
Your bottom hole is NOT the Octohatch and I don't want to see you open it.
