Bruising, Nightsweats - should I be worried?

Have namechanged for this post.

For the past 4 or 5 weeks I have been noticing a awful lot of bruises on my arms, legs, and even just above my waistline Hmm. The past 2 or 3 weeks I have been having night sweats nearly every night, and am very hot most of the time.

Feeling pretty tired a lot of the time but I do have quite a hectic lifestyle.

Went to the Drs yesterday and mentioned it, and he found one of my lymph glands was slightly swollen. I go for blood tests on Monday. He was quite adamant that I have the test as soon as possible and come back to see him next Friday.

Having Googled it (I know, I know, I shouldn't....) I've slightly worried myself. Trying not to be a hypochondriac about this, but wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

Many thanks.

Might just be a virus, Cunning. Really hope it is. No point telling you not to worry, but talk away if it helps.

Wait for the results!

The internet will show loads of different diagnosis' and it could be none of them. Whilst there might be obvious similarities to your symptons it could equally be something not as serious and internet searching will not help your nerves.

It always amazes me how long you have to wait in the UK to get a blood test and why cant it be done the same day. Could you not go straight to the hospital rather than waiting for a nurse - just to put your mind at rest?

CunningRunt · 04/11/2011 10:13

Thanks all for replies. I know I'm silly to worry, and it's much more likely to be something totally innocuous.

It is ridiculous how long we have to wait for blood tests in UK. You have to ring a certain number to get an appointment for the blood test - I rang on Tuesday and they can't fit me in till Monday! Nearly a week's wait!

But thanks again for replying. That's why I posted on MN - I KNOW I'm being a bit of a drama queen, so would rather get talked to sensibly on an anonymous forum then tell my DH and have him shake his head at my hypochondria Blush

The chances are it's nothing to worry about. Your GP wouldn't be doing his job properly if he didn't investigate the worse possible scenario to rule it out and then work back from there. It doesn't necessarily mean he thinks it's something nasty, just that he'd rather rule it out (or arrange treatment if it is something to worry about) and then concentrate on anything less nasty.

Of course you're going to worry but try not because it won't help things at all.

Re: blood tests - I saw my GP today and need to have a blood test. Earliest I could get was next Friday! Dunno why GP's can't do it there and then as it's not as if it takes long!

Can u not go direct to the hospital for blood tests? That is what I used to do when in the UK because u could never get to see the nurse.

Where I am now you get a form from doctor and then go to a special unit that just take bloods all day

RoadArt · 16/11/2011 21:35

How are you now? what was the diagnosis?
