Different sized pupils

Just noticed that my 3 month old little boy Samson has different sized pupils in dim light. They both dilate when take him to a lighter room but the difference, although not dramatic, is marked. Anyone have any experience of this? Otherwise he seems fine, alert, no droopy eyelids. I have to take him for his 12 week jabs on Friday (eek) so may try to see a doc whilst there.

I sometimes have different sized pupils when I've just woken up. Sometimes quite a dramatic difference, and the strange thing is the larger is usually closer to the light source. The doctor investigated, but concluded "one of those things". But I would get your LO checked out asap.

Oh I meant to say that the doctor was more concerned with checking the speed the pupils dilated. So as you're saying they dilate fine, it's probably ok.

My Lo too. I was worried it might have come from when she slid off the changing pouffe backwards onto head, but optician reckoned more likely to be traumatic birth, as the nerves that control pupil size run over the bone at the temples. However, it could also be a variation of normal, her pupils dilate at same time and same rate and just wait and see is the advice we got - unlikely to be anything serious for us. My optician was more helpful than GP.

Hi

My son has exactly as you desribe, one pupil stays smaller in dim light. I was referred to eye clinic when he was 3 months. They diagnosed Congenial Horners Syndrome, very mild case. He had to have annual eye checks to ensure his eyes develop evenly. It causes him no problems.

Do get the dr to check it out though
