Hi -

DS is now 8 weeks old and I am still suffering from carpal tunnel. It's worst overnight - I wake in the night and struggle to bend my fingers, which are sore. During the day it's fine - I am wearing splints to see if that helps.

Any idea when it should pass?

I had this (nowhere near as badly as some I've heard of. My hands used to go numb if I used the computer mouse or drove a car, as well as at night when sleeping. Anything could cause numbness, using a screwdriver, peeling veg, writing, pushing the pushchair. It gradually gradually cleared up after resting my hands as much as poss (putting them up on pillows and cushions, higher than heart).

My ds is 3 now and they usually only get a bit numb sometimes during the night.

My cousin had to have an operation to fix hers.

I wish I could be more positive - sorry. When you wake and the hands are numb, hold your hand up in the air to restore feeling. I got this wrong at first, thinking that it was bad circulation I held my hands lower, and that just made it worse.

At least when I had it bad other people wrote all the Christmas cards for me that year

I had this too and think you should definitely see your GP asap. YOu may need a referral to hospital to sort it out if it doesn't go away.

Agree with Davros - go and see your doctor. There is treatment you can be given to help cure it. Ultimately you might need a minor operation to correct it.

I had the op on both hands - great success but scarey at the time.

Contact me through mumsnet if I can be of help.

I had it really badly - it would wake me up and then stop me getting back to sleep. I went to the GP who gave me a harmless injection (I was still pregant at time) in my wrists and I was fine from then on.

Need to resurect this.

I had carpal tunnel when I was pregnant last time and it came back last night. I woke up several times with completely numb hands and had difficulty getting back to sleep as they kept going numb again.

What is the injection?

Any recommendations on best way to sleep? I try keeping my hands straight but don't know what else to do. I am only 12 weeks pregnant and can't face 6 months of this getting worse! I thought it was caused by swelling but I don't have any.

I think the splints at night do help, it is the first thing to do in the hierarchy of what my GP suggested to do to solve it.
