DS OK in himself and drinking plenty of fluids. Is there anything else I can do?, or is a call to NHS Direct due? (Cant find anything over the counter for his age)

Did you starve him for 24 hours? That usually helps. 5 days is a long time though - I would be tempted to take a sample of poo to the doctors with you.

merrymarchhare · 28/12/2005 13:18

No I havent done the starving thing. Theres so much conflicting advice that I decided to just stick to plain and simple but tna.

but tna?

How old is your DS? Dioralyte or similar can help, and won't do any harm (it's just salt + sugar in an approprate mix, to add water too).

I've heard varying suggestions re: starving them.

merrymarchhare · 28/12/2005 13:31

tna - to no avail, sorry.

We've had the same and I posted a similar q, see here , sympathy, it's horrible I know.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/12/2005 13:37

Dioralyte is something any chemist will have, and will sell you. It's ok from ... 6 months? Younger? It's just rehydration sachets.

If the diarrhoea is still happening because your DS is missing some essential salts etc (having pooed them out), then the Dioralyte will fix it.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/12/2005 13:38

I do find kids are somethings just like this. Both mine get diarrhoea pretty often, and generally, I just ignore it. As long as they're drinking, then they'll be fine. I do give dioralyte if I'm getting twitchy, particularly if it's really liquid, rather than just soft.

Off to a different chemist when DH gets in then.

Well thats it really, I do think its me just getting a bit twitchy as you say. Oh, the joys.

It's pretty normal to get twitchy! Anyway, dioralyte is just an appropriate mixture of sugar and salt. Not medicine in any sense of the word. If you give it unnecessarily, well, he's just had a slightly gross drink that he didn't need.

merrymarchhare · 28/12/2005 15:32

Now have some Dioralyte. Will see how we go in trying to get him to drink it, ha.

No luck there really! DH spoke to NHS direct who have said take him to GP tomorrow morning if no better. Im all twitchy again now.
