Tranexamic Acid for heavy periods

Hoping someone could tell me a bit about how this works?

Started taking it for the first time yesterday. I took 2 in the morning, and 2 at bedtime. I was told to take them 3 times a day, but I didn't feel I needed it.

The difference is amazing! I was losing so much blood, I was still feeling awful by the time my next period came. I'm on day 2 of this period now, and feeling great. It's life-changing!

However, I just don't understand how it works, and haven't found any satisfactory info. Is it just postponing everything? If I stop taking the tablets will it suddenly get heavy again? Where is the blood going that normally I would be losing? How do I know how long to take them for, or do other people just vary the amounts etc as they need to?

I had it in liquid form for unexpected bleeding - nearly 2 years since previous period. It tasted vile, but did the trick. Took it for about 6 days from memory.

Ah yes it is wonderful. I've been on it for years. Don't have to take it every month but now and then I do. It increases your clotting factors as I understand it and that reduces the flow of blood because your endometrium doesn't break down as easily. Long term use may have some side effects (not deadly, but not good ones).

I also get nefamic acid for crampy days. That's worth investigating.
