Oh god, hemorrhoids

I've never had them before and I'm not even pregnant. I am in agony. I have googled, while sobbing - and they seem to be external and thrombosed. No one ever told me that piles was like being stabbed in the arse.

I've tried germoloids - the ointment and the spray, but no improvement. I know it's pathetic, I know it's childish, but i really really dont' want to go to my male doctor and show him my bum - I'm aware he'll have seen worse, but it makes me feel sick thinking about it. And I've done childbirth, but this is somehow worse.

Please, anyone, is there anything else i can try without seeing doctor. I've tried warm baths, ice, hydrocortisone spray and cream. I've even read amateur arse doctors heroic self banding but these aren't dangly so you couldn't tie them.

You have my sympathies! Have you looked at them? I nearly passed out on the floor when I finally plucked up the courage to look at them in the mirror. My were external but did shrink after about 3 tubes of germaloids ( I love your reasoning on buying germaloids over anusol btw) Hope it goes well at the Drs Grin

GOOD GOD WOMAN do not look directly at them Grin

youch · 28/10/2011 10:14

Oh I did look at them - like two purple marbles - it was horrifying.

Back from GP - it wasn't as bad as i imagined but still bad. It was the chit chat while he put on his gloves that made me whimper openly. He said 'whoah! those are really thrombosed! they are going to bleed!'

I got some strong cream - procto -something - he said he usually prescribes it for 7 days but this will take longer as they're very big and angry, and that now i've had it once i'll probably get them again so never to get constipated. I am very unhappy with this information.

Meglet good luck with the camera thing! Hope it all goes ok for you.

youch great that you got sorted out Grin when I had dd3 the midwife said "God they look really painful", I thought God they must be awful if she comments on them while I'm pushing an 8lb8oz baby out Grin I never looked myself!

Meglet good luck

When I was pregnant I mentioned my concerns to my GP as I had a history of piles she wasn't interested. After pushing for 2 hours during childbirth they popped out with avengance 3 days later! The midwife thought I was being mardy until she looked and she said she had only ever seen one another case as bad and they needed surgery! When I did bring myself to look they were like small grapes, 2 rows of 4 which were so thrombosed they had packed into small squares fitting alongside each other to make matters worse they were pulling on my stitches. I can only say the next three weeks before the pain subsided were worse than the childbirth. I could not sit or even lay down without being in great pain. When I raised having a caesarean if I had another child the answer was a firm no! Needless to say I only have one child!

I once had a repeat bout, not as bad as the first but the GP tried to 'put it back inside' I nearly went through the ceiling, never again!

youch · 28/10/2011 17:57

Oh God that sounds horrendous, you poor thing, I can see how that would put you off having more children! I read somewhere that 50% of people get them at some point - and I had NO idea that it was this painful, i keep wanting to ask people but being stunted, can't actually have this conversation in real life. Very grateful to mumsnet for making it possible to have this conversation virtually though Grin

Glad to hear you saw the GP. At least you can get it sorted now.

My colonoscopy was fine due to being off my head on various drugs, can't remember it at all!

youch · 28/10/2011 18:30

Glad it wasn't too bad for you - hope the result are all ok too.

I am having an attack now. Ooh doc has kindly faxed repeat prescription of proctosedyl cream, as I've had it before & gave a good description. It is awful. Worse than after my ventouse & episiotomy
