Could this be Ulcerative Colitis?

Sorry this is gross, but i am worried and looked online (prob not the best of ideas) and found that most of my symptoms seem to fit UC: different coloured stools which frequently changes but is mostly very loose.
Blood in stools (a lot), if i pass wind, i can pass pure blood but usually mess myself (very unpleasant), stomach churns constantly.
Being sent (eventually) for a colonoscopy to have a look see. Does anyone know what else this could be please? x

I just had a letter asking me to have chicken & rice for lunch the day before......I couldn't eat rice if you paid me.....& at the moment I won't manage chicken either

KatyMac · 23/11/2011 12:20

I've gone out on a limb & had a sandwich today....which may have been a bad move Sad

spiderlight · 23/11/2011 12:30

Hello - I was diagnosed with UC in September. Similar symptoms to you, Chocol8, but then the diarrhoea suddenly got dramatically worse and I was admitted as an emergency. Scary at the time, but being an in-patient doesn't half speed up the testing process! I've got a repeat colonoscopy next week because I was so inflamed last time that the consultant was scared to go 'round the bend' in case he perforated it. Just finished a course of steroids and touch wood I'm in full remission at the moment!

Off to google microcolitis - never heard of it!

KatyMac · 23/11/2011 13:55

Hi Spider...glad you're better

I started bleeding again Sad

Chocol8 · 23/11/2011 20:07

Music, i do believe the bleeding is an internal pile. I spoke to a friend's Mum who said they had a lady in hospital years ago who had to be winched up on a seat and her piles were bleeding like waterfalls.
This morning i passed a few small solid stools - which is probably one of a handful i have had since this started. The stool consistency can change mid-sitting so to speak.

Spider, so glad you're in remission at the moment, that's great news! Long may it last. Let us know how your colonoscopy goes next week.

Katy, sorry to hear you're bleeding again. Do you think your bleeding could be due to piles...?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 23/11/2011 21:52

I don't think so, pile blood is bright red, very thin & watery (or at least mine is)

This is darker, more blobby, very thick & mucus-y Waaay TMI ew!

breadandbutterfly · 23/11/2011 22:19

Oh dear, sorry to hear you're both still suffering with your bowels (is it just me or is there something inherently comic routine-y about discussions about one's bowels? - as I said, it can help to employ a certain amount of black humour at these times...).

Try anf get some rest and hope you're feeling a bit better tomorrow.

musicmalady · 23/11/2011 22:37

ok but until someone's seen the "pile" at sigmoidoscopy etc then you don't really know where the bleeding is from.

KatyMac · 23/11/2011 22:41

I was stupid today - I ate a sandwich for lunch & then a chicken breast for tea; never agian

KatyMac · 24/11/2011 20:15

Feeling a bit down tonight, another week until I find out what is wrong. I suppose it could just be bad IBS, but even knowing that would be a relief

I'm not good at waiting

Chocol8 · 24/11/2011 20:16

It doesn't seem to matter what i eat, it all comes out the same way, although i did a few solid balls (rabbit droppings, as my Mum used to call them) today, nestled between the slop. Sorry, tmi - and yes Bread, you're completely right about black humour!

Yes, the not knowing is the worst thing isn't it Katy?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/11/2011 21:37

Not knowing is awful
Not knowing & feeling crap is worse (I think)

I'm so tired & so sore & passing clots

KatyMac · 25/11/2011 09:14

Do I go back to the GP?

KatyMac · 25/11/2011 11:26

Rang NHS direct & they said to leave it

spiderlight · 25/11/2011 13:01

I can't believe people are being left in this state for so long and not knowing what's wrong :( While it was terrifying at the time, I'm so relieved that I ended up in hospital as an emergency and didn't have all the waiting - it must be agony. Thinking of you, Katy and Chocol8.

KatyMac · 25/11/2011 18:02

Thanks Spiderlight

KatyMac · 25/11/2011 21:48

I just slept for nearly 3 hrs

KatyMac · 26/11/2011 13:06

Bit better today

How is everyone else?

Chocol8 · 26/11/2011 16:15

Very tired too Katy - haven't been off the sofa practically all day. Could do with some sleep but got a meeting tonight so got to climb in the shower and get ready later, urghhh!

I actually did some more 'solids' yesterday but still having mucus, exploding bum, blood and clots. Roll on Monday.

Is orange poo worrying?

Actually I am worried about the clean out medication on Wednesday - I don't really have a lot in there to clear out. & food goes through me normally within 30 mins to an hour; do you think that will be a problem?

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 27/11/2011 07:50

katymac don't worry about the clean out medication. Just drink loads of water to keep yourself hydrated and flush everything through. The cleaner your bowel, the better they can see.

I was reading about you saying "it's the not knowing" which is worse and you're absolutely right. Mine turned out to be colon cancer but once I knew, I felt I could get started on the road to recovery instead of just waiting and imagining the worst. Fingers crossed for a speedy diagnosis for you and OP

KatyMac · 27/11/2011 08:22

So there is no problem it working on an empty tummy?

I got told to eat Chicken & rice - I have never eaten rice it makes me throw up & atm chicken is causing a lot of pain so I'm not inclined to eat either

KatyMac · 27/11/2011 08:35

Fuzzywuzzywozabear sorry, I didn't ask how your treatment is going. How are you doing?

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 27/11/2011 08:45

Not sure about the chicken and rice as I wasn't allowed anything. But then I had a barium enema so it might make a difference to what they can see. Why not try and eat very small amounts if you can manage it. The prep makes you feel very drained so you'll probably need it.

Re: my treatment. I'm doing just fine. Had my entire colon removed nearly 6 years ago and finished my chemo 5 years ago last month. Got my 5 years all clear this year. I live without a bowel but it's a small price to pay to know the cancer is gone. Good luck for your test
