Wound not healing - advice needed

My mum has a wound on her leg that refuses to heal despite three lots of antibiotics and having it cleaned and dressed at the doctors 3 times a week. She's had it for over 6 weeks. I think she needs to be referred to a specialist but I've no idea what sort of specialist she should see. Could anyone please advise? I think she's being fobbed off because she's a pensioner but I think enough's enough.

She needs to see a Tissue Viability Nurse or be referred to a Leg Ulcer Clinic. Even with this it could be a long job to heal a leg wound, I'm afraid.

So she's not being fobbed off. But by now they sshould be passing her on to a specialist.

Thanks. I'll get her to speak to her doctor. She's getting quite low about it so anything I can do to help support/steer her in the right direction would be appreciated.

I am a tissue viability nurse and this would be something I would get referred. Message me if you need more help

Does she smoke? people never associate it with poor wound healing but it reduces the amount of vit c in your body and also oxygen! pretty essential for wound healing.

In my job (podiatrist) we deal with mainly older people and a lot of people get leg ulcers that go on for years. There not called indolent ulcers for nothing. If its on the front of the leg or the side they last longer as their isnt much flesh there so less blood supply.

Please dont get stroppy with the health professionals, we do what we can with wounds but we are not miracle workers.

Not getting stroppy with health professionals but am concerned with her just being left. Her podiatrist is dealing with a separate toe issue that the gp practice didn't bother to treat - he says that's typical of this practice. A neighbour who is a senior health care professional said the same thing. Does worry me as i get fab treatment at my gp's practice (different).
