Cold Sores

Hello
I suffer from cold sores and have for may years.
I now think my little girl has one. She does not seem distressed or in any pain, but what can I do about it?
I am unsure about putting the aciclovear (don't know how you spell it) onto her as she in under 3 (seems to be the age most things become 'safe').
How can I avoid passing them onto my other baby? I know the avoid contact but I thought I did this will my little girl, but there it is large as life on her lip.
Any suggestions?

How old is your dd?

I spoke to a pharmacist about cold sores when my dd was 2, as she sometimes gets them too. Her advice was to use Vaseline on a sore that wasn't too bad, to soothe and protect it, but that Aciclovir would be OK to use if it got really bad. The main problem with Aciclovir on smaller children, according to the pharmacist, is not that it's unsuitable to put on their skin, but that because it's on their lip they tend to lick it off and ingesting it isn't advised! She felt it would be OK on a 2 year old as long as she didn't lick her lips too much.

Lycine is good to take if oyu suffer cold sores. Could be a deficiency of this mineral in your body.

St Johns Wort and Calendula is good to put on cold sores, both very healing for skin. Best to buy as a tincture and mix together then apply... slightly diluted especially for your dd.

If you cannto get St Johns Wort.... Calendula by itself is still good.

hello paps! Hope you're all very well. Have heard very good things about lycine too. Solgar do a good one.

DD (3) has just recovered from her first, rather enormous cold sore which came out just as she was starting to recover from a particularly nasty virus.

As she is 3, I was told that acyclovir was OK but tbh as the sore has already erupted, it was a bit late. The best thing I found was some tea-tree oil gel applied twice daily which dried it up.

Thank you to everyone who replied
I am keen - where possible - to avoid giving her any medication, so the natural remedies are terrific. I will try this next time one crops up.
My DD is 19 months so that is why I was trying to avoid acyclovir as I thought she would eat it.
Thank again
