Pelvic floor - anyone else not able to 'find' it?

I can't squeeze my pelvic floor, even though i try - i just squeeze everything else! I've referred myself to the continence service, who have recommended trying a electronic stimulator, but i don't know if this will work. Everyone else seems to talk about being able to exercise them somehow - i feel like my brain doesn't know how to move them....
Has anyone else experienced the same, can you reassure me that i can learn?
I dont think my pelvic floor can be that bad, i leak a little if i jump or run but it isn't catastrophic!!
Thanks

It's probably not that bad. An electronic thing will help. Have you tied stopping yourself weeing in short bursts when you are on the loo? That's your pelvic floor.

Thanks
I have tried but can't stop the flow, although i can slow it a bit (i think!). But i can't seems to remember which muscles it is! Sounds so stupid but i donlt know how to teach myself :o). Even the nurse didnt have any good suggestions. :(

I would think you would be able to stop the flow if your muscles were in shape. Try an electronic thing, it should kick off the process for you. I bought one, they are expensive but haven't used it as all ok now, try one, look on amazon x

that's useless ofher...ask for a referral to a specialist clinic ..they should have a machine that is attached to a probe which measures muscle movement when you do what you think might stop the flow and should be able to tell whether you have muscle movement to build on and if so help you isolate the muscle movement needed (i had it at my local womens hospital, to help me find the rectal muscles in my pelvic floor after a long and difficult delivery....i was loaned a machine by the clinic until they became a bit stronger)

Thanks, will ask to go back to a specialist

You need to be seen by a women's health physio. Continence nurses are great, but physios are the ones who know about muscles and how to facilitate action from some weak ones! There are ways and means......! Get your GP to refer you.

I second the need to see a women's health physio - and there are some private ones about if you can afford it and want to get seen quickly.

A physio specialises in pelvic floor dysfunction told me to suck my little finger whilst trying to do pelvic floor exercises. Not sure why it works but it does!

Also when doing the exercises, if you stand with feet parallel it focuses on your vaginal muscles, stand with heels together & toes pointing out focuses on anal muscles and toes together with heels apart focuses on urinary muscles.

PJ they ought to advertise those tips on the sides of buses!!

... Am I the only one sitting here testing their muscles while reading this?

pollywollydoodle · 31/10/2011 23:14
