itchy bottom - not worms, what can it be??

TMI alert - I have a very itchy bottom. Have had for a few months now.
It cannot be worms as I haven't seen any and my daughter has had them twice recently so I've taken the Ovex as directed.

Any ideas, I'm too embarassed to go to the docs.

Fissures? Piles? Herpes? Thrush?

You really should go to the doctor you'll feel much better for it. I know it's embarassing but once you're there you'll get over it quickly.

In the mean time have you tried putting nappy rash cream on it? Might soothe a little?

PetiteRaleuse · 21/10/2011 17:45

Sorry, herpes would have cleared up by now don't go doctor googling in panic Grin

Do you have piles or skin tags around your anus?
I have skin tags and the itchiness. Its to do with somekind of fluid that comes out of everyones anus. You may be making too much of it. There's no cure for it as far as i know. Just keep bottom very clean (moist toilet tissue).

Sorry for being gross.

Nappy wipes are cold so soothing too.
Does it hurt when you go to the loo?

ilovedjasondonovan · 21/10/2011 19:14

No it doesn't hurt when I go to the loo.
Skin tags - yes, I think I have developed some of them.

Its itchiest when I need to go to the loo, but does itch at other times too.

Are you SURE you havent got worms? it is very easy to get reinfected if someone in the house has had them

ButteredCrumpet · 21/10/2011 21:53

Could be lots of things but this link is very helpful.

I've found that aqueous calamine lotion really helped when nothing else seemed to.

Steer clear of sopa, wet wipes and moistened toilet tissue as they can all aggravate a sensitive skin condition.

OlderNotWiser · 22/10/2011 16:50

My OH got this badly for years...after an anguished trip to the GP it transpired he just wasn't cleaning himself up enough after a poo. He uses kiddy wipes now. Simple as that.

JalanJalan · 23/10/2011 02:29

I had this recently; had it for about 3 months before finally seeing a doc. He gave me cream which cleared it up in days. He thought it was a fungal problem (which is very common apparently).

pARGHssTheTwiglets · 24/10/2011 16:46

You can definitely have worms without seeing them (trust me :o)

Did you take a 2nd dose of Ovex a week later? (I know you said you took it as directed but the packet only says that you might consider a 2nd dose, not that it's neccessary). Reinfection is soooo easy, espeically if you've only had one dose.

DukesOfTripHazard · 31/10/2011 12:52

I have had worms but i have found piles symptoms to be very similar. Germoloids triple action, say I.

Hi looking for advice. My 7 year old girl is screaming every night with an itchy bum. It’s waking her up and I’ve treated her for worms several times so definitely not worms. Any ideas

Washing with plain water rather than using paper can help.
