my son started with a bad cold on monday, the usual symptoms... temp, very very (very) snoty, hacking cough, mouth breathing etc. i took him to the doctors monday to check it was not on his chest and that was clear. however it does not seem to have got any better since, he still sounds all congested although he is not getting so many temps now. to make it worse he is teething and now has conjunctavitus. should i take him back to the docs or am i just being a neurotic mum? is it normal for the cold to last so long and for him to be sooooo snoty with it? he is only 7 months and erm yes guess i am an over protective first time mum. oh am meant to be going to the in laws on sunday (100 miles away) if he is still like this do you think it would be a bad idea to go?

No harm at all in popping back to the docs as things change quickly at this age. It may well have progressed but of course way well have not!

At my own many trips to the docs to check for chest infections, I remember the Doctor telling me that babies with chest infections generally get temperatures and are often sweaty...

However, don't let your worry about being neurotic stop you from taking him to be checked over if you think there's been any change. Besides if he has conjunctivitis the docs will be able to give you something to clear that up. Then they can listen to his chest whilst he is there!

I think that if he can handle the journey (which hopefully he will sleep through - and at least in his carseat he is sleeping sitting more upright - good for blocked noses/chests) then I would GO! Besides it's Christmas!! Your ILs would be upset if you couldn't yes? They aren't going to worry about a cold. Just make sure everyone washes their hands regularly to avoid the risk of spreading the conjunctivitis. Oh and bring your calpol.
