How to treat Diarrhoea in a 14 month old?

Any tips gratefully recieved. DD has now had about 10 poos today, think she has my tummy bug. First time she has really had diarrhoea, what do I do? Feed her? Starve her? Diarolyte?
Foods to avoid? Should I take her to the doctor?
Top tips?

Oral Rehydration Therapy. We always used Electrolade, it must taste nicer to my two than Diarolyte. The HV used to say no milk or solids for 24 hours just ORT

My ds2 had this recently for about 5 days. I kept up the normal diet but tried to give more bland stuff like mashed potatoes but he is younger than yours - only 8 months. I also gave extra fluids in the form of water mostly. I took him to the docs on day 5 and they suggested sending off a ample but as if by magic it had celared up the next day. He has had it a couple of times actually and the gP says not to worry unless it goes over 5 days and then go to them.

Pain though isn't it - poor ds2 only had to trump and it was all up his back - bless!!

This is what I've done in the past, and it works... I wouldn't starve her, you'll end up with a very miserable baby. The general advice now (beleive it or not) is to continue to give them milk, (some docs. would dispute this) but to also give them fairly bland food (white diet) eg rice, bread, mash, fish, chicken. I find that bananas are good too.
Em what else... It's also dead important that they drink plenty (cause of the dehydration risks). I used to really fret about these 'ol tummy bugs but they tend to just sort themselves out on their own. As long as your DD is quite happy in herself, I shouldn't worry too much.

DS (15 months) had this recently. GP wasn't worried as he was fine in himself but he had really serious nappy rash with open sores and burns. We couldn't seem to help his bottom as he was pooing so often.

We carried on feeding him as normal but cut out fruit and Weetabix and gave him more dry food - bread, pasta, etc.

Also, he is a bug guzzler of milk (cows) and the GP said to replace it with soya or goats milk as the ? in cows milk would irritate his stomach and produce enzymes which were burning his bottom. He didn't take to soya milk but is still on the goats milk. He was fine a couple of days later.

He also said not to give him ORT as he was eating and drinking water as normal so he was getting vitamins and minerals.

Hope she gets better soon.

One word: Bananas!

Stay away from: all other fruits!

Definitely make sure she keeps drinking electrolade, milk, etc.

Countess - sorry to post this after you've been shopping, but here's a TOP tip: Coca - cola, (not sugar free/diet stuff) stirred until its completely flat. Get sick person to sip it: it provides exactly the same rehydration therapy as stuff like Dioralyte, but tastes a whole lot better. It was an intensive care paedriatric nurse put me onto it, when she used coca cola rather than dioralyte to rehydrate my very sick toddler in hospital. Only thing is don't give to diabetics without monitoring their sugar levels. Try it for you too. HIH
