bxo

I haven't ever posted before but wondered if anyone has the same experience. My middle child, age 10 has recently been diagnosed with bxo. He has had a circumcision and follow up surgery, all in the last month. He now needs to use steroid cream twice a day for up to 6 months. I have struggled to find relevant information or support for children with this condition - most are sorted out with initial surgery I think. Anyway, if anyone can help at all I'd be really grateful.

what is bxo?

dusty05 · 23/12/2005 10:22

BXO is balanitis xerotica obliterans! It is a skin condition which affects the willie. We only knew our son had it when it had caused so much scarring he could no longer pee. Not ideal...hopefully there will be no more surgery but it needs long term management. Thanks for replying.

aw sorry no advice, just wanted to offer sympathy, sounds like such a pain for your ds. my ds had a condition when he was much smaller (about 18 months i think) where his foreskin was very tight and sort of stuck to the end of his penis. he had to learn to pull it back to wash it and that seemed to sort it out.

good luck with your ds.

no advice really, ds1 had a problem with his willy, and I had to put steriod cream on it for 8 weeks, (he's 3) its something they get so sensitive about, I hope your ds is okay. Will it cause any problems later in life?

Can't do links but just found this

Thanks for your sympathy...it is a pain and a bit worrying as we don't know if there are long term affects. Our hospital are doing a good job and we are being seen every couple of weeks at the moment.
I have got my ds to put his own cream on as 10 is quite old for me to be doing it! I was pleased to hear the steroid cream worked for your ds - I had read it was good but didn't know anyone with actual experience of it.
Thanks for the link, I'll try it.

Heya, @dusty05! I know this thread is 20 years old, but I wondered how things have been for you. My DS seems to be having a similar issue and I am after some reassurance from someone with long-term experience. Thank you.
