problems having blood taken

I had my blood taken yesterday as i am pg. my blood was dripping really slowly into the bottle, my arm and fingers went numb and blue. it took a long time because of my blood not running out.

I usually have a problem with people taking blood and have many drs/nurses unable to find a vein and when they do it doesn't seem to flow. sometimes they have to take blood from a few different places to get enough.

Anyone else got this problem?? does this mean i have low blood pressure or not enough blood or something or are my veins just really rubbish.

I have also been feeling really exhausted today and weak could this be an side effect of them taking my blood?

I've had this in the past when I was extremely dehydrated due to hyperemesis. It took a long while to get better, about six months perhaps. I was told that dehydration collapses the veins. (I needed a drip putting in, which was quite a palaver.)

Have you been ill, or are you dehydrated? Though I'm sure there are other explanations.

I had my bloods taken last week for my 28week check and had to go back to the blood clinic as the MW couldn't get any veins...she said that it was very common during pregnancy. I have never had a problem with them finding a vein before (used to give blood) but am a "slow bleeder" and do have low blood pressure.

I had problems with the midwives not being able to find a vein in my arm and the doctor having to take it from my hand

OUCH!
The specialist "Blood lady" was very good, but she must have been used to it.

Yes even a midwife winced at a doctor taking the blood once too

I had a blood test a couple of weeks ago and the guy hurt me so much, he was 'wiggling' the syringe around because he couldn't get any blood, (I didn't look, I'm to much of a coward for that). In the end I asked him if he would like to try the other arm, he then took blood from that one with no problem.

Later I looked at the first arm and there was an entry hole and an exit hole!!! He had 'wiggled' it about so much he had 'come back out' with the needle! No wonder it hurt!

just to add that when i was pg and even now that i have to have full bloods done every other month, it was/is pointless them trying to take it on my right arm. Dont ask me why or how and they always look at me a little strange when i ask them to take from the left arm.....its an automatic thing to take from right.

If they try in the right arm , they end up frustrated and i end up in tears and with loads of bruises but NO blood. But occasionally they wont listen (though i insist now) and when they finally did take from the left it flowed perfectly.
