Advice and hand-holding please- dad in hospital after seizures (no previous history)

I'm a long-time lurker but this is my first post.

My dad (in his 50s) has been taken into hospital after having 2 seizures this afternoon. He has been booked in for a CT scan tomorrow. Apparently he had a migraine all last week, with hallucinations. The doctors have already said that because of the seizures he will be unable to drive.

One possible cause is late onset epilepsy (which may mean giving up work as he has a long commute by car), but I can't stop thinking about other worst case scenarios eg a brain tumour etc. I know it's stupid to be worrying before we get the test results but I'm so scared of losing him.

Has anyone else been through a similar situation?

sorry you are going through this. I have no advice about his medical condition but do know what it's like to have a dad poorly, it's horrid, they always seem invincible. Hope you get answers soon.

Thanks honeylamb. You're right, I've been so used (luckily) to having both my parents in good health, that this situation seems completely alien....

I know, the hardest thing for me was seeing him in a hospital bed so weak and ill, he was my daddy who could fix anything and yet suddenly he was so vulnerable! Its hard as we get older, we suddenly find ourselves worrying more about our parents.

Stay positive, he really is in good hands in the hospital!

My mum has late onset epilepsy. Started having seizures in her late forties. She had to wait six months () for her scan which ruled out tumours. My mum's seizures are well controlled with anti convulsants. Hoping for a good outcome for your dad.

I have to do regular epilepsy awareness training at work and the lady who comes to do it (a nurse that specialises in epilepsy) always tells us that everyone can seizure given the right circumstances.

We've had mixed news today, my dad's CT scan showed bleeding on the brain and initially the consultants were positive that with r&r he would make a full recovery within a few weeks.

However, they then sent the scan off for a second opinion from specialists in London and on their advice have now told him that he'll have an MRI scan tomorrow. If nothing more sinister is found in the MRI it's likely that he'll be diagnosed with epilepsy.

He's being a typical 'brave' dad, telling us all not to worry, and to go on as usual. It's easier said than done! My mum's really struggling :(

(I can't believe they made your mum wait 6 months TheFallenMadonna, it makes me realise what good care my dad is getting at his local hospital.)
