Am currently at home (off work) looking after dd (13months)who has been unwell for 2 days with what I'm sure is teething. She is constantly drooling, her gums feel hot and swollen, red cheeks etc but the reason I'm at home with her is that she keeps spiking really high temps. I'm sure ds was the same, remember having to take him home from nursery a few times because he'd get quite poorly with it. At the moment I'm managing it mainly with nurofen as that seems more effective than calpol. Any other ideas?

Offer lots of cold drinks/food & put water filled teethers in the freezer.
You can interspace calpol & calprofen at 2 hr intervals if necc.

Keep wiping down with a wet cool flannel to help with the temp.

I think a combo of Calpol and what's the other one called? Well thats good for high temps.

Anbesol is brilliant for teething. It's a liquid so unlike Bonjela it goes straight on to the gums rather than it being eaten.
Try it yourself it really does work, gives a lovely numbing sensation which will give her some relief.

homeopathic teething granuals from boots seem to help DD.

DS calms down on Ashtons And Parsons teething powders - similar to the Boots ones and more widely available (i.e. just about everywhere sells them)

carlychristmas · 20/12/2005 15:44

ashton and parson worked everytime with both mine

Just be aware that teething will not cause fever, or any real pain - I was told this by a Ped. Consultant at a top London hospital. According to him, there are lots of myths about teething and for the most part they are all a load of rubbish. The only teeth that do cause discomfort are the back molars that come in round about 2 1/2.

best to visit the doctor - check ears etc.
