I have been diagnosed with anaemia (a few weeks ago).
This causes: Tiredness, lack of motivation, shortness of breath.
I am feeling very tired this morning although dd does wake us up every night without fail.
I was prescribed Iron tablets which I started to take for about a week, however I seem to have got bored of taking them or somethingHmm so this is why I need a Good Kicking-- encouragement/ motivation to take them.
It says on the leaflet that you shouldn't take them near to drinking tea or coffee
but the problem is I like tea and coffee!
So PLEASE can someone give me a good talking to.

Take them with orange juice - they are absorbed more easily apparently. If you don't take them, you won't feel better!

i found the no tea hard but if i wanted symptons to go(bad hair loss)i needed to take the pills properly.tea stops you absorbing the iron properly so taking iron with tea is a bit pointless.you do need vitamin c so try making yourself drink orange instead.
i remember sat waiting and waiting for the 2 hours before i could have a cup of teaGrin
it will be worth it,youll feel loads better!

Thanks for the support. I have started taking them again.

I rate Spatone - it's iron in liquid form, drink with orange juice. My iron rocketed after a couple of weeks of that. I may be wrong but isn't it tea that you shouldn't drink and coffee's OK?

I take Ferrous Sulphate and it says on the leaflet you shouldn't have them one hour before or two hours after eating or drinking the following:
tea, coffee, milk, eggs and whole grains. I'm not quite sure what whole grains are?

The iron chelates (binds with) things like milk. Therefore you have to wait for those things to leave the digestive system otherwise the iron will just bind to them and pass out through your system without being absorbed.

Just take them at a different time - don't miss out on your cuppa!

I am the same.....you get so knackered you can't even summon up the energy to take the tablets ;(

I've been taking iron for 2 months for terrible anaemia, blood level of 6.4, and after about 3 weeks I was feeling better... and after 2 months I have been running for a train... over a bridge... running up stairs over a bridge... and not dying when i got on to the train. Wow wow wow. It is incredible to have so much puff and energy. Don't make dealing with kids harder than it need be - i have twins now 13 and suspect have been anaemic all their life, i always blamed exhaustion on having had twins, but how I wish i'd taken iron all those years ago because I would have enjoyed their childhood so much more, been awake for more of it, played longer, harder and more energetically with them... KICK KICK take that iron!
