SINGLE MMR - CLINICS IN LONDON???

Picoloangel · 06/10/2011 14:53

My DD is 9 months old and my thoughts are starting to turn to single dose MMR. Having carefully weighed up the pros and cons, I feel really strongly that I don't want her to have triple MMR. I would really welcome any feedback on private clinics in the London area offering single MMR and whether anyone knows of a clinic that has mumps vaccine available - as opposed to simply saying that they will be able to get it!!

don't go that route if you ultimately want your DD immune against all three. There is no guarantee that mumps will ever be available as single vaccine again and sources for the other two components get dodgier.

Interesting one. Does a girl need a mumps jab? I have a little boy and we were considering singles for him, but always planned not to bother with a German Measles jab. In the end we did nothing, but that really is another story.

Hi, Im also interested in my DS having single vaccinations and i live in the west midlands and would appreciate any info on private clinics within this area.
I read on the JABS website that the medicines control agency will allow single vaccinations if you have started a programme of single vaccinations? does this include if you pay privately for say, measles? but cannot access mumps etc?

Hi, i am also interested in getting single vaccines for my DS. i live in the west midlands and would be most grateful if anyone knows of anywhere i can get these.
I read on the JABS website that the MCA will allow single vaccines where a child has already began a single vaccine programme? would this include those who have sought say the measles vaccine privately but cannot access the mumps vac?

it is not about "allowing" it - the singles are just not being made/sold in the UK, so they must be imported from elsewhere (which is always a risk regarding cooling chain and reliability of sources) and to the best of my knowledge, the single mumps is just not made anywhere.

As far as I can see, singles offer no benefit* and only hassle and immunity gaps.

*the private docs can line their pockets, obviously, but I meant for the vaccinee...

Single mumps jab is not available in the UK.

what you need to weigh up is whether your not wanting the MMR is strong enough in the face of this knowledge - since single mumps jab is not available, do you still not want the MMR? or do you want your dd to have the mumps jab more than you don't want her to have the MMR?

I had my daughter done singly the clinic she is registered with have told me they are getting the single mumps vaccine in December although I'm
Not 100% convinced as the dates keep moving around! We've decided if still not available by jan were going to give the mmr to act as her Pre school booster so she will have full immunity for measles and rubella and some immunity to mumps! It's a difficult choice I'm pregnant again and dh says when this baby is born he wants him / her to gave mmr straight off! As it's a stress her bot having any immunity to
Mumps I don't want her to catch it! If I wasn't paying to have the flu jab for her I would give her mmr sooner but has to be a 6 week gap in between flu jabs and mmr and she needs to have flu doses over 2 jabs! I'm not even sure if I'm doing the right thing with the flu jab but she's starting Pre school November and after the deaths from swine flu last winter i am
Worried about her catching it! Mmr priority for us if still no mumps begining if the year! This part of parenting I'm not good at decisions have never been my strong point! If you want details of the private clinic it was caller Childrens immunisation centre London you could always delay until dec and see if the mumps thing does actually come off and if not then opt for mmr?

CatherinaJTV · 16/10/2011 12:10

you don't need a 6 week time between flu and MMR unless you are giving the live flu vaccine (FluMist) which, as far as I know, you cannot get in the UK.

Blueberties · 16/10/2011 12:18

It's dreadful and autocratic that they aren't available singly. Even if they're "unlicensed" in the UK on the NHS it doesn't mean they are "unlicensed" by the way. It just mean a government decision has been made and not on vaccine safety grounds, but on health policy grounds. I think the travel chain and cooling safety problems are exaggerrated somewhat for the purpose of frightening people into going for MMR.

There are various reasons for wanting single vaccines... I was tested and found that not immune to Rubella recently. Told my IVF clinic that they would not start another treatment without confirmation from GP that I was immunized... I was searching around my area and no single vaccines were available (even privately). I had to go with MMR and found that I was pg 2 (naturally) days later. Now I am v worried that I was forced by circs into having not just one but 3 live vaccines whilst pg...

There is such high demand for single vaccines, I do not understand why more are not made available.

To go back to OP, we went to Richard Halvorsen at his Harley St clinic. You can either just have the jabs, or pay for a consultation with Dr Halvorsen if you want to discuss it further.

If you google his name you'll get the contact details for the clinic.

CatherinaJTV · 16/10/2011 17:00

bemybebe,

congratulations on your pregnancy :) There are case reports of hundreds of cases like your in which NOTHING adverse happened to the baby. Make sure your doctor reports anyway, because this should not have happened (and actually, for a woman who is ttc, a pregnancy test before giving the MMR would have been in order). Sending happy pregnancy and healthy baby vibes your way!

Congratulations

Stop worrying, these are attenuated live vacines, asssuming yoou already had immunity to M and M only the rubella part would be new to your body and kicked your immune system into responding.

There is zero chance of you getting rubella from the vaccine and it is better that you have been vaccinated than your unborn baby being at risk.
