Going rate for private physio (GRRRRR... BUPA!

I'm so irritated with BUPA and Kingston Hospital. I had a test to check my bloodsugar levels recently. The test amounted to sitting on an exercise bike at Kingston Hospital for 30 minutes, and every 5 minutes my blood was taken, and then that was sent off for blood sugar levels. Right, so I got billed £200 for the consultant fee, £300 for pathology, and £628 for an EKG test.... a what?!?! So, I'm disputing it with BUPA / Hospital.

Anyway if the hospital want to charge for the use of the bike, then ok, but put it through as something a bit more realistic... say a 30 minute physio session.

Okay, so my question is does anyone know what the going rate would be for 30 minute physio session? I'm willing to pay a fair amount, but certainlynot £628 for sitting on an excersize bike for 30 min.

Thanks, Bossykate. How are you? Are you on a hunt for a new nanny now? Poor you.

isn't an ekg a heart thingy? were you hooked up to monitors?

followthestarlover · 19/12/2005 21:00

yes, it's an electrocardiogram... it reads the electrical activity in your heart

misdee · 19/12/2005 21:00

thats an ECG starlover.......

uwilalalalalala · 19/12/2005 21:17

I had neither. That's the whole point. Kingston Hospital couldn't really figutre out how to charge the test so the nearest thing they founf in their system was an ekg test... WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE. I simply sat on thir exercise bike and pedalled away for 30 minutes. And I'm not paying £629 for that! So I'm going to counter offer with the going rate for physio. Hence, I posted this thread to sort out what the going rate for physio is.

all my experiences with BUPA have been good ones

hoXMASchick · 19/12/2005 21:19

why were they testing your blood sugar during exercise?

followthestarlover · 19/12/2005 21:19

i googled it misdee... it can be spelt either way!

followthestarlover · 19/12/2005 21:20

google results

uwilalalalalala · 19/12/2005 21:23

Because I seem to have a problem with my blood sugar going too low between meals. So the test was to rule out an insulin producing tumor (which it did rule out). So, that's of course good. But I'm none too happy about this EKG bill.

EKG/ECG no you shouldnt be charged for that if you didnt have one.

an other monitors were used?

uwilalalalalala · 19/12/2005 21:43

Now if only you worked at Bupa. :-)

The super-expensive graduate-qualifications-only place in the City I used to go to for physio charges about £42 I think. For a session, which is half an hour.

I'd just call a physio. Mine is called Josephine Lawson physiotherapy.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/12/2005 08:01

And boy do BUPA/Kingston hospital sound rubbish.

bossykate · 20/12/2005 08:02

thanks, uwila. er, i'm facing redundancy in the new year, so am actually at rather a loss about what to do next on the nanny front! dh and i will have a good think about it over christmas and think about the best option in the circs.

good luck with this bupa thing.

uwilalalalalala · 20/12/2005 09:54

So, the redundancy is definitely happening? So sorry. What a terrible Christmas present.
