What causes extreme thirst & tiredness (apart from diabetes)?

Am just wondering if anyone knows whether anaemia can cause extreme thirst? I was tested for diabetes around 3 months ago and didn't have it, but I know I'm anaemic and am having further tests to find the cause. But in the mean time I'm so tired I can barely function, often quite dizzy and incredibly thirsty/hungry all the time.

It takes up to 3 weeks to get a GP appointment here but am wondering if there's anything I can do in the mean time? Any advice/insight very gratefully received!

I would say dont let it drop until you have a confirmed diagnosis.

Ask questions like, what conclusion have you come to so far? what is the next stage?

It is too easy to be living with something because they only got so far in their tests. (speaking from experience). So many symptons are so similar to completely different diseases, conditions etc.

Thanks iamseeing for the virtual kick up the butt - I think I need to keep remembering that everytime I see a GP or consultant as I've been quite good at being fobbed off as it's a condition I've just got used to putting up with.

Thats ok. I just know I am experiencing lots of misdiagnoses from the doctor at the moment but thankfully the hospital are working independently and coming up with some answers

ANA does test for SLE/lupus but it depends on how strong the result is whether its significant or not.
If u are not having proper periods to account for the anaemia, they really need to look for the cause and discuss it with you.. as u say, IBD, coeliac, etc

Is it just a really bad hangover? Grin

Thanks iamseeing and notchatting - i will insist on further tests as I don't want it just to be left as it is as if I have infusions/transfusions it may make me better short-term but will just mask the problem.

bodyofeyore unfortunately not - I hardly ever drink. Don't seem to be able to tolerate alcohol other than a small beer Confused
