Quick question re my sons chin

He has a large- about the size of a penny- scab on it which is red all around. under the scab there seems to be some amount of pus. He is almost 3, no one knows how he got it, not on my watch, not with the CM (she is uber professional and thorough). When asked DS says a busy bee got him and it is itchy.

So far I have kept it clean, been putting a bit of savlon on it and leaving it be. Thing is, I think it is getting bigger. I took him to see the Pharmacist today, and he said go to the Drs as it looks red=infected.

Any ideas?

It sounds like impetigo.

Get it looked at, sounds like either ringworm or impetigo. Try and keep his hands away from it and use plenty of hand gel!

Have googled impetigo, do not think it is that, it is just one large scab. he has a Drs app tomorrow at 10, so will know more then. Could be ringworm...gross. Honestly we are a very clean and healthy household.

When my DS had impetigo, it was just one scab, very very slow to heal.

neither are gross, just like people catch colds they also catch skin infections too. It is a sign that your ds plays with other kids :)

OK it IS impetigo, and he has got some antibiotics for it. BUT he hates the medicine and he has been spitting it back out, any tips?

Bribery with chocolate buttons. And/or mix the medicine into fromage frais or teaspoon of jam or similar.

have you tried a syringe? Straight down the inside of the cheek, with a drink of something nice for afterwards.

Thanks for the tips, am going to get a syringe and will try the mixing of it with honey.

I am 38 weeks pregnant I could live without a cranky toddler right now! Gah!

Oh its really yuk, the anti-biotics they give for skin infections. We had major bother getting my DS to take same. Had to force it, not easy. Hope you have success.

We asked for a different bottle of medicine as the original one (Fluxotocine?)was absolutely rank. Both DH and I tasted it.

He is OK with the other bottle now, so should be on the mend soon, I have also been dabbing vinegar on it, which seems to helping too.

It IS gross.
