Can urinary tract infections be caused by a bug inside body?

As opposed to travelling up from the bottom area? Just wondered as ds's seemed to coincide with a throat infection. Or is that just a coincidence?

Casting my mind back to O level biology, the kidneys are the cleaning house of the body and once past there, into the urinary tract all is sterile, so I don't think it is possible.

I suppose if the immune system is compromised with one infection another might be likely to take advantage

I agree with vkone in that ds is already ill with one infection his body is probably just open to more im afraid.

Have you heard of Candida Albicans? if candida over produces on your body it can cause ongoing thrush, UTIs etc.

If you have been on antibiotics, are run down or have a sugary/poor diet the candida can easily over produce. The best 3 things to do are: Do a yeast cleanse, change your diet to avoid yeast and sugar and take probiotics.

Often GPs will just keep giving you antibiotics , but this makes it worse and it is a horrible cycle. Go to a naturopath or your local health shop for more advice.

e.coli is a very common cause of UTIs I've been told by my GP but that is more common with girls/women as it can be passed from the anal area to the urethra very easily. If ds has had a raised temp with his tonsil infection, he might have been a bit dehydrated making urine hang around in his bladder and bacteria stick to the bladder wall, rather than being flushed out more regularly as he would normally do when he is well and perhaps drinking more.

I think drinking water regularly to keep things flushing efficiently is a good thing to do. Hope he's much better soon. Tonsilitis and UTIs are vile
