dd feels dizzy and hot

Yesterday morning she felt v dizzy and called me from the bathroom - she was pale but felt v hot. We got her to lie down on the landing carpet until this passed. She does have a sore throat too. Anyway she went off to school and felt ok although her voice sounds v hoarse. She has slept or at least napped through most of today and not eaten anything but a couple of plain biscuits. She doesnt actually feel hot enough to have a temp and has a bit of a fuzzy head but not a real headache. Is this a virus and what should I do? Can I do anything to alleviate her dizzy feelings?

My dd has very nasty virus and started similarly 7 days before the worst symptoms. My best advice is if it develops use Calpol and Nurofen alternately so she gets something every two hours instead of waiting for the four. This was advice I got from the hospital once when dd was really bad. Good luck.

I think it's a virus that's going around.

My dd1 has had somthing similar since Thursday night. WE were out at the pantomime when she suddntly said she felt hot and dizzy. Panto was nearly finished so it was fine, when I got her home dozed her with calpol and put her straight to bed, but she was sick through the night. So, she was off school yesterday and seems ok now although she's still a bit pale and tired.

Dd2 has been a bit off for a couple of days this week but hasn't been sick, just pale and hot.
I heard tonight that at one of the primary schools in my city they nearly had to cancel the nativity play because so many children were off sick.

Jampots, make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids. That will help with the dizziness. Hope she feels better soon.

we were told by hospital to give calpol and ibuprofen at the same time, I wonder which is correct?

Loobie · 18/12/2005 11:33

Either is correct, they can both be given on top of one and other or the 2 hours apart thing depends on how the pain or temp is going. For really severe pain or high temp i would give both together to get increased effect. For a more continual pain i.e toothache post op pain or a steady incresed temp you could space them out.Usually i give both when dd gets a high temp as she is prone to seizing so i initially give both to get the temp down a bit then spread them out so she can get a dose of something every 2 hours.
To those with dizzy kids, the dizziness usually is a side effect of a high temp, cooling them down and giving loads fo fluid usually helps the dizziness, the extra sleepiness is also usually due to the temp.HTH

loobie that is useful to know, I hadn't heard of giving them at the same time before but it is because he had a very high temp then probably
