Advice please: DD is due for her MMR but I'm 34 weeks pregnant

DD is 14 months and is due her MMR - had my reminder letter from my GP. However, I am 34 weeks pregnant and although I am O.K. for rubella, I'm worried about my unborn dd2.

I read somewhere that the danger time is the first trimester and the last 4 weeks - think this was to do with listeria but is this the same with the MMR?

I was going to get dd1 done in the new year when I would be 36 weeks - thought it better to get it done before dd2 is born - or not?

Advice would be gratefully received.

I might be being a bit dim but whyare you worrying about her jabs affecting you? Do you need to have the jab as well?

I'm worried about it being a live vaccine etc - to my knowledge I've never had measles or mumps so am worried if I can pick anything up when doing dd's nappies etc.

I might just be a paranoid mare (could be pregnancy hormones) if I am - quite happy for someone to say so - at least it will put my mind at rest.

I was told it was only the polio vaccine that you have to be really careful about touching as it is still live when it comes out the other end if you havent already had the jab.

Will watch this thread with interest. Have you done a google search.

I found the following:

Children who are not vaccinated with MMR could give their pregnant mothers the virus, said Katow. Those who did not give their sons and daughters the MMR jab may be endangering their own unborn children.

Falling rates of MMR vaccinations in the UK meant the risk of pregnant women coming into contact with the virus was increasing.

Couldnt find a divinitive answer.

DD had her MMR 2 months ago and I was pregnant never thought about it and it was never brought up.

I was around 37 wks when my ds had his MMR. No comment from the nurse and I didn't even give it a 2nd thought. The vaccine isn't 'live' as far as i know. Only polio, and they've even changed that now so it isn't live. I wouldn't worry at all.

DS2 didn't have his till 18 months so there's no reason you can't delay it if you're really worried.

podkin · 15/12/2005 17:30

you'd be worse off delaying imo as if dd contracts measles mumps or rubella in the meantime she could pass any of them to your unborn child...

Think I should be O.K. then - thanks!

(Also, thanks for no-one saying I am a silly mare)

It's not a live vaccine. Even if she gets a little rash (and they often do) she won't be infectious. You can relax and go ahead
