Green poo.

DS had very green poo ALL the time, from about 1 week old to about 4 months. Then it stopped. He is now 8 months. Yesterday he was very whingy all day, then had an enormous poo, which was very green, and then his mood was so much better.

Does anyone know what green poo means?

are you still breastfeeding? apparently green poo can mean a baby is getting lots of lactose (natural milk found in milk) and this can happen if baby is feeding often, and only gets the first bit of milk, and not the end, where the milk is richer

it can also mean baby has a tummy bug, but does your baby have any other symptoms? (you say he was whingy, maybe his tummy was sore)

that should be 'natural sugar found in milk'

Sorry, had to dash off somewhere. Thanks for replies. No, I am not breasfeeding and have never breast fed him. The milk intolerance thing is interesting.... My DS1 did have a dairy intolerance but his poos were never green! But DD2 and DD3, who as far as I am aware, do not seem to have a dairy intolerance, both had green poo for the 1st 4 months of their life. Did breast feed DD2 (not DS3). When I asked various HVs why they had green poo, they shrugged their shoulders and said, 'sign that they are feeding too much' 'sign that they are hungry and not feeding enough'!!! Gave up asking in the end!

Not worried, just REALLY curious thats all. Wondered if anyone knew.
