nappy rash and teething

DD is teething at mo and has very red "front bum".To me it looks burnt and asked HV today who looked at it and said it was maybe thrush. She told me to use an anti fungal cream and if it hadnt cleared in a few days see the GP. I had thought that if thrush was present there would be white spots. The HV also recommended a cream called metonium (I think that was what she was saying)once it cleared up. I am going to try and get an emergency appointment with my GP tomorrow but would like to know what others think. It is not really bothering my DD and she gets frequent nappy changes and lies sometimes twice a day with no nappy.

I would have thought there would be white spots too but I am probably wrong! Metonium is very good, so is Drapolene. Metonium is very thick and very yellow and stains anything it gets on. Drapolene is pink and much lighter and personally, I think is very good, works well in conjuction with disposable nappies ie doesn't hinder the way a disposable works. Hope that helps.

Also Bepanthen is very good (I used t with prem DD and has always done the job) plus unlike Metanium it doesn't stain everything it touches!!

Also egg-white. If you whisk up a couple and smooth them on the sore bits they form a sork of second skin. Sounds gross but it does work.

My DDs always got really bad napy rash when teething and like your DD it looked like a burn more than anything.

Many thanks for the info. Have been to the doc this afternoon and she prescribed canesten hc and i have bought the metanium. However I will try the egg white during the day and hopefully this will help. Thankfully she is not really bothered by it.

am glad it's not bothering her - it never really used to bother mine much either apart from a couple of times when it was bleeding and I put them in the bath . Can you imagine - that must really have hurt, bless them.

Feeling guilty now...

My DD recently had this. Her front bum was also bright bright red and she had blisters as well that sometimes bled. Metatonium didn't help much so we went to the GP who said she had thrush and was pescribed Caneston and a cream beginning with F. What also helped was that we stopping using baby wipes, went back to cotton wool and let her run around with no nappy for as long as possible.

yep - I rarely use babywipes, and never when they are small only cotton wool and warm water. Only use babywipes when they're weaned and it's proper pooh

i am back to using cotton wool and water now and thankfully with that and the canesten hc it is clearing up. She lies with out her nappy quite a lot too so hoope thats that. Next time it happens I will be more prepared.
