Can they be redone and how succesful is it?
I know my dentist is going to suggest re doing it as it is better to preserve the tooth but I just have had enough and want it out I am in so much pain today so the original treatment didn't work I think there is a small lump below the tooth and this is hurting too.Has anyone had one re filled or can I insist on extraction

ooh no don't

Just ask for sedation and have it re-done. You won't notice a thing. Honestly you should keep as many teeth in your head as you can or you will regret it later

It hurts so much i thought after root treatment it would be dead I can't eat on it and the bone hurts. What kind of sedation do they offer?

I would try to save it too. Having said that, I will have to have one of mine out - unsuccessful root canal, then crown, but would do the same again with another tooth.

sedation is lovely, they basically give you a bit hit of valium like stuff

The tooth can't be saved and so am having a week of Abs for a big abcess and when it has settled they are taking it out.I will then have a bridge or an implant Dreading it esp at Xmas

i have had three lots of root canal the last was done yesterday and i have to go back next monday for the final one. Although i was in initial discomfort last night i wouldnt call it painful, but everytime i have had it done they have killed the nerve. Is this not standard procedure? My dentist told me that unless the area is infected root canal - horrific as it sounds should not be that painful

noddyholder · 13/12/2005 14:13

Sometimes it just doesn't work and there can be very fine cracks in the root that let further infection in This is likely with mine and so there is no point re doing it I am more than happy with this

was thinking of going back about mine, had a cap that they took off about 18 months ago. did about 9 months of root canal treatment and it still wasnt right - he reckoned there was no nerve left there but everytime he put that antibiotic stuff in there i felt it. eventually crowned it but plays up every few weeks, it has been agony again recently but reluctant to go back as i dont know what options are left. Plus they are in the process of going private and we really can't afford £9 a month each.

Sorry light hi-jack

longwaytogo · 13/12/2005 15:38

slight even

noddyholder · 13/12/2005 19:43

I have had a fair bit of work on that tooth and like you it has played up now and again and never been right really. If a root canal is a good shape and uncomplicated to do thats fine but they can miss bits or the root can have hairline cracks and in that situation my dentist advised me to take it out and stop suffering
