Do I just give up on getting rid of my verrucas?

And if not, then what should I do now (wwyd thread)?

Have tried
Prescription acid + plasters from GP (for weeks)
Banana skins (for maybe 6 weeks)
OTC acid + plasters (for months)
Fortnightly treatment at chirodopist clinic (9-10 months)
Duct tape (current).

I could only find black duct tape, does it have to be silver stuff, instead? Black tape does not stay in place well. Have not tried "freezing" (not sure what that means, cost or time to work).

Should I go back to one of the above and stick it out for much much longer (how much longer?) Are there very special techniques to making any of the above successful? Have tried to follow directions. They don't bother me at all but I feel guilty that they may be contagious.

WWYD?

I also had them (multiple) on both feet when I was a teenager, literally around 8-10 on each foot.
Tried the Salactol stuff, had them burnt away twice etc, nothing worked.
Within one week they all just vanished. I was also told this was the virus leaving the body.
I had them for years and years but no other member of the family ever caught one off me.
Be patient, they will go.

I've tried Bazooka, it worked on ds but not on me - not even using thr extra strength.
The over the counter freeze stuff is crap, it didn't work at all and hurt a bit.
The only thing which has cleared mine up is professional freezing at the chiropodist. It took several appointments though and wasn't cheap.

I once had the mother of all verruca crops and I had them frozen at the chiropodist. They went away a bit but I finished them off by cutting off all the dead skin around them and digging out the black root which I then extracted with tweezers. Did it every night for a couple of weeks and they went! (Grim - sorry!)

I acquired one 2 years ago at Centre Parcs. Inside tip of toe next to little toe. Tried freezing, bazukka, duct tape, banana skin and self 'surgeries' - nothing worked. Abandoned my efforts bout 6 weeks ago and in the last week the pesky thing has just......gone! Left not a trace!

Have you tried boosting your immunity with Echinecea? I had loads as a kid (like 9 on one foot and 10 on the other). I had mine frozen by a chiropodist but couldn't get them wet (recall having a bath with both legs propped up on the side. How on earth did I get out?)
Try not to recontaminate your feet, avoid shoes with no socks, maybe even verruca socks in the shower?! I'm sure they will.go, persevere.

saintlyjimjams · 18/09/2011 08:32

Oh I need to retry with mine. 15 years now Hmm I tried initially, then gave up assuming my immune system would work but they (there's a group) seem to be invisible to it.

I go to the beach nearly every day and my shoes are always filled with sand so I'll cross that one off the list Smile

My friend swears by cider vinegar applied with cotton wool every night!

My dc had one for about 18 mths we tried everything to get rid of it. The only thing that worked was a silver nitrate pencil. Turned it black and it fell off within 3 days.

anonymousbird · 18/09/2011 14:37

Hmm. Am interested in these freezing kits. I have zapped DS's stubborn verucca twice now, absolutely no evidence whatsoever that anything has been done. I wonder if I am doing it wrong as the skin doesn't look like anything has been done to it at all, let alone a blister form or anything.

What is supposed to happen when you use the freezing kit? The instructions simply say "after 10 days it should fall off" but DS's verucca is into his foot, not on top of his foot IYSWIM, so I don't see how anything can fall off!

TIA

I tried everything with mine - acid, freezing and cutting at the chiropodist, filing them down, etc.

They went on their own in the end.

One thing I would say is that once you have got rid, my tip would be never to be barefoot in any kind of communal area - gym, changing rooms, pool, etc. I have a pair of cheap flip flops that I wear and leave at the edge of the pool so I can put them on and off without my feet touching the floor at all, in gym showers and so on. Mine ended up giving me terrible back problems - I had a giant painful one on one heel and couldn't put weight on it properly for about a year which meant my hips and spine were messed up from uneven walking. Hence my current paranoia about getting another!

singersgirl · 18/09/2011 22:20

Glad to know it's not just me! I've had one on the ball of one foot for over 10 years now - I've tried the podiatrist twice, as well as all manner of banana skins, Compeed, home treatments, duct tape etc. It was very painful and affecting my walking at one point, and I'm seeing the podiatrist every couple of months to file it down/ put more acid on it. But I'm wondering whether just to give up too...
