I can't eat, sleep, or talk becos I keep coughing. Terrible irritation at the back of my throat that won't stop.

Been to dr, he says they can't do anything about coughs.

So your folklore recipes please. my cleaning lady says drink Honey mixed with cider vinegar (YUK!). I'd take honey, lemon and whiskey, but can't drink until ds has been fetched home at 4:30.

Any ideas

Melt honey in a glass of water and add some lemon, if you don't have any lemon, just sqeeze in some of that Jiffy stuff.

Works for me!!

sugar free sweets, keep sucking them. Your body will do the best it can then.

LilacBump · 12/12/2005 13:06

orange juice, hot water and lots of sugar

Epiffany · 12/12/2005 13:10

I go to sleep sucking a strepsil when its like that, it does help
also tescos do a tickly cough lemon medicine thing cheaply which works enough for me to get to sleep when Ive got that dreadful tickly cough.

Told by my GP that cough meds are a waste of money, said instead get some sugar free sweets to suck and plenty of warm fluids.

Apparently chocolate can be good for a cough . Any excuse, eh!

We3kingsofOrinocoare · 12/12/2005 21:06

My grandma (now 96) used to give us sugar sandwiches made with best butter if we had a cough.

Actually, I often had a cough as a child

manuka honey by the spoonful or in hot drinks, great for coughs and sore throats

I find 'soothers' sweets do the job great and they taste nice!

Easy · 12/12/2005 21:48

Manuka honey hmmmm.

I've found a plastic bottle of winnie-the-pooh honey, slightly crystalised in the back of the cupboard.

Do you think that'd do?

close enough

Furball · 13/12/2005 09:14

Can't believe how much I 'tempted fate' on this. Literally about 15 mins after posting I coughed non stop ALL NIGHT. Soothers, whiskey, cough mixture, honey, steam. You name it it didn't work, how bizarre!

Easy · 13/12/2005 09:27

oh no furball, don't join this club.

I went to sleep sucking a strepsil with anaesthetic at 10:30 last night, and again at 3:15.

Still coughing this morning, and sooooo tired.

Really disappointed cos I've had to cancel lunch with my friend and a trip to Colston Bassett to buy the Christmas Stilton.

Back to bed soon methinks

Someone once gave me glycerine which helped my cough - I think it was mixed with warm water. Should be in most chemists?

blueshoes · 13/12/2005 11:32

Found out by chance drinking sparkling water helped to ease the ticklishness.

Carameli · 13/12/2005 12:06

a hot toddy a night is a great thing for cough, with lots of honey and lemon and cloves, yummy.

One other thing that really worked the last time I had a tickly cough was drinking lots of pineapple juice. Cannot remember why but there is something in pineapple that is fabulous. It really worked wonders for me. I was desperate at one point, virtually drinking cough mixtures from the bottle, until I came across this.

try it.

Easy · 13/12/2005 12:08

Caramelli, Will deffo try that. We even have some in the fridge (ds loves it).

Easy · 13/12/2005 17:03
