ok, so, sorry if this is too much for some of you, but I couldn't ask this anywhere else (not a friends conversation!) and it has been happening for years!

ahhem right

when i get my period.... a day or two before it.... I start to bleed - elsewhere in that region and it continues throughout my period, being the last "place" to stop too.

is that ok? I don't think it is but I am not sure! Have been worried for so long, but can't bring myself to ask doc - even made an appointment and ended up so embarresed that I asked him about my "acne" - I had ONE SPOT!! poor man!

Do you mean your bottom? If so, I don't think that's usual. But I remember reading something about (ahem) anal bleeding - if it's fresh, red blood (like from piles) it's not so bad but old, dark blood should be investigated, so to speak, by a doctor. Sorry not to have been more help, hopefully someone who knows might see this!!

WigWamBam · 12/12/2005 11:12

If you mean you're bleeding from your bottom then you have to take a deep breath and see the GP to get it checked out. It's probably nothing, but it's always better safe than sorry.

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 12/12/2005 11:13

are you sure you are bleeding from them back?

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 12/12/2005 11:13

the back, sorry

nowhereelseIcouldaskthis · 12/12/2005 11:18

no, no, it is def period blood and it is def coming from there - trust me, I thought - nah it can't be for a long time and therefore have been very careful to make sure.

The only thing I can think is that, somehow the blood is moving through internally once it has built to a certain point in my uterus (ie, at it's highest level just before a period) it starts to come through from somewhere????

As I say, it is not piles as I don't have any! and also it is too much blood but also it is not old either.

I cannot believe I am discussing this - however, If I thrash it out with you lot I may get used to "talking" about it enough to go to the doc!

The problem with going to the doctor is that I am sure they will say the same as Socci - and it really is not that! How do I convince a doctor - lets face it, most of them really do know everything no matte what you say! (well - the ones at my surgery anyway!)

has it started since you have given birth? I'm wondering if there is some problem between the vaginal wall and the rectrum, iyswim, it does have a name, but can't remember what it is

nowhereelseIcouldaskthis · 12/12/2005 11:23

would be interested to know that HMOTTD! I can't decide exactly when it started - it may have been as long ago as when my DS was born (4yrs) but I am not sure. I guess if I knew that it was a "something" then I could at least have something to focus on - I am most sacared about not knowing and them not knowing - and all that horrid stuff!

OP posts:
HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 12/12/2005 11:26

I read a book about it, it's when the wall of the vagina has been damaged and is therefore open to the bowel. But I would have thought it would have worked the other way round too, iyswim. If you feel with your fingers, can you feel anything there???

nowhereelseIcouldaskthis · 12/12/2005 11:31

havn't been that far yet- but I am getting that desperate.

I wondered about things going the other way round too - I thought that, at least, that would lead to an infection eventually? I don't know, I really am going to have to go to the docs arn't i?

LOl, I am a complete prude BTW

If there was a problem with the rear wall having a perferation then you would be ill all the time. The bacteria from your feaces is toxic and it spilling over into your vagina would cause infection after infection.
It could be a possiblity that just prior to your period you may become a little constipated and therefore have a small fissure which is bleeding.

I bleed from my back passage after having a hysterectomy which led to an anal prolapse...not nice, very very painful and highly dangerous as the toxic waste was attacking my central nervous sysytem.
Loads of surgery and 3 months in ICU put me right

no tear at all socci, at least not externally and none reprted internally - although labour was fastish and delivery was supercharged!

Thanks JMATS - feel loads better now! like I said before, I had thought that I should get infections, however, wouldn't this depend on whether the tear was up or down? ie, if it goes from the vagina down into the rectum then it is possible that there is aflap of some sort created which would be effectivly "closed" by the passage of any products???? I don't know, purly theroising!

Sometimes you get this with endometriosis

WigWamBam · 12/12/2005 11:48

You know you have to go to the GP, don't you! They won't make you feel embarrassed, they will probably have come across it before, and they can refer you for the right kinds of tests to find out exactly what the problem is.

Go on - you have to ring them, and it might as well be now.

JayzMummysATurkeyStuffer · 12/12/2005 11:59

I didnt want to shock you...sorry if I did I was trying to say that if you did have a perferation in the back wall of your vagina then you would be getting loads of anerobic(sp?) infections. They really are not nice and you would know about them because you would be having a discharge.
It could be possible that you may have endometriosis and or adhesions caused through childbirth. They could have adhered to your bowel. As you go through your cycle the adhesions could be tearing and causing the bleed.

IMOH I think you really should go and see your GP....the longer these things are left the worse they could become. Your Gp will have seen loads of people with similar things so dont be embarrassed. Your health is more important than 2 mins of embarrassment.

jalopy · 12/12/2005 12:10

Do you think that maybe you have internal haemorrhoids higher up in the rectum that are not visible. Perhaps they bleed when there is a lot of pressure from your 'heavy' uterus. Just a thought.

nowhereelseIcouldaskthis · 12/12/2005 22:28

hi everyone, sorry had to go earlier.

I know I have to go to them, I will call in the morning. Jmats, you didn't really be scare me don't be sorry.

I hadnt realised Endometriosis could do that, i had discounted piles etc as I have no discomfort any other time, but endometriosis could make sense as I get horrendous pre-period pain all over my lower abd and back. which I think is a symptom?

Anyway, as I had hoped you have all made me feel more confident about talking about it and I think I can convince my doc that I really am more worried than if it were just poor hygine!

Thank you all for your advice.

WWB - yes I do know really - don't bully me

OP posts:
SnowQueenVictoria · 12/12/2005 22:45

Could be endometriosis. A fistula (hole between back passage and vagina) I would think would find you having faeces coming out your vagina and not just blood coming out your back passage. But im no expert!

HunkerXmasAndAMunkerNewYear · 12/12/2005 22:48

Could easily be endometriosis

Lots of sympathy if it is - I have it and it's sore

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 12/12/2005 22:52

There's a good chance your GP won't actually need to examine you - he may just listen and refer you.

nowhereelseIcouldaskthis · 12/12/2005 22:59

well that would be nice roobie, have to admit that scares me most!

I guess it does sound like endometriosis, at least I know that it is treatable etc so not as scary as some of the thoughts I was having!

Once again, thank you all, you really have helped by being so - grown up! (without trying to be patronising!)

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 13/12/2005 11:30

Oh, I'm a big bully, me ... renowned for it, in fact

I just hate to see someone so obviously worried when the chances are it's something that can be treated, or at least given a diagnosis and referred to a specialist, so that part of the worry is gone.

So ... as I have the reputation as a bully ... have you made the appointment yet?
