Small red lump on bikini line - should I be worried? I am worried:-( Could it be sinister?

I have a small pea sized lump on the inside of my thigh around the bikini line and am starting to worry. It appeared about a week ago when I was on holiday. It is painful like a spot but I (stupidly) squeezed it and it bled, I expected pus (sorry) to come out but it didn't just blood.

In my drama queen style, I am worried in case it could be cancerous. Is this likely?

It definitely not any STI. What should I do?

I have to make an apt for a smear test but how can I go with this horrible lump on my bikini line?

Any advice?

No because the dog gets ticks by running through long grass and you kind of twist it off with tweezers then it wriggles away. This is not what I have Thanks goodness

Sorry to wind you up, we had them on holiday, so that's why I was thinking about it.

Pinkflipflop · 29/08/2011 20:11

Where did you have the tick?

Could it be one of those cysty things? Fibro-something -dermatitis? When you squeeze, does the area around it wrinkle?

I would wait few days more and go to the doctor if it doesn't disappear by then.

In Scotland, on legs.

Glands don't necessarily need antibiotics. The fact they are up means you body is fighting off whatever has got you. In most cases they go of their own accord in five to seven days.

Pinkflipflop · 29/08/2011 20:16

Chocolate - if that is what I have should blood come out when I squeeze?

If it's bloody when you squeeze it's not a gland. Unless you have broken the skin having a squodge. It probably is an ingrowing hair then. Magnesium Sulphate paste, it costs about £1.50 a pot, from a pharmacy. Slap it on, slap a plaster on, wait overnight, eh voila hair will appear and you can have great fun pulling it out and marvelling at how long it is!

Oh really? I am starting to salivate! Assuming that it is not sinister, this spot/lump/hair could be quite fun!!

Another dumb question - how could the hair be so long as I get bikini lin waxed every six weeks? Sorry to be thick

It may be just a few mm long, but that is enough for it to curl start growing inwards iyswim.

whomovedmychocolate · 29/08/2011 20:34

Sometimes they fold back in on themselves. I once pulled one out and it was nearly four inches long and I tell you the lump was titchy. I did not believe is but you know how sometimes a spot has a lot to give. Well hairs are the same.

You note, OP how you have gone from 'OMG I'm going to die of cancer to cool I have a hair to play with' in under an hour btw? Grin

Pinkflipflop · 29/08/2011 20:40

I know choc - that is so true. The posters on MN have cheered me up.

I have ordered some ingrown hair treatment so I will keep my fingers crossed that it's one of them!

You have reminded me of my original worry now - should I worry again?

there are lymph glands and there are sweat glands. I think folk are getting confused!

I had an abcess in my groin in April, was bloody painful. Started off that I thought my knickers were a bit tight and were chafing against my knicker line, couple of days later bikini line was red hot, very sore and the skin was very tight red and swollen. Was in absolute agony, could hardly walk with the pain (far far worse than childbirth), don't remember much about the Royal Wedding as was thrashing around in agony on the sofa all that day. Made an emergency appointment at the doctors in Boots (Sunday morning) and although embarrassing to show him, by this stage didn't care. He sorted me out with antibiotics and around a week later much much better. He said it was an abcess.
