dd3 also pooing green atm ,and is ill.

Mincepiedermama · 08/12/2005 14:34

BF babies often have green poo, especially when they're not well or if they're snacking a lot from you rather than having long feeds. It sounds normal to me.

missy8 · 08/12/2005 19:19

thanks for your advice, she does seem as though shes been snacking from me more than usual and i think she may have had another growth spurt hopefully it will clear up soon, she seems fine in every other way she is i think smallfor her age, last weight check she was 17lb 2oz but my hv said her weight is fine?

DD had green poos all the time from the date of her first 5-in-1 jab until she was on solids. Never really discovered why but she was absolutely fine otherwise. It did worry me alot though.

missy8 · 09/12/2005 16:33

hi pennies its funny you should mention the jabs because she seemed fine until she had her 1st 5-in-1 jabs to as this seemed to start round about that time, she is on solids now and her nappies havent been green until the start of this week when she started with this cough? shes now on antibiotics and her nappies seem to be returning to normal(fingers crossed)it does make you worry about them though.how old is your dd by the way?

My ds has a definite preference for green as his fave poo colour, he's bottle fed.

poppyseed · 09/12/2005 16:46

Only thing that I know about green poohs and BF babies is to do with the fore and hind milk in the feeds. Too little hind milk (short snacks) gives rise to it I think. But at 10 months she probably won't be having that much anyway.......have you got it checked out?

Can be feeding probs, but just in case you've started taking a supplement e.g. cod liver oil, stop taking that.

missy8 · 09/12/2005 20:24

she wa sadmitted into hospital in may due to green nappies and had a load of blood tests done all came back negagtive and they also took stool samples to check for gastroenteritis etc they also came back negative paedeatrician said he thinks it could be allrgy to cows milk passed on through my brst milk,i was told to stop all dairy in my diet which i have since done and her nappies have been pretty much ok since then with the exception of the past few days although they do seem to be returning to a more yellow colour now,so i dont know? my gp and hv say she is fine and developing as normal i think she is small though but im only 5ft and 8st and dh is 6ft but quite slim.

DD is 15 months.

I never found out what caused it. Tried to cut various things out of my diet that could be affecting hers but nothing changed. To be honest I'm sure it was something in the jabs that triggered it. It really worried me loads but was told it wasn't a prob ny health visitor and docs and as she was putting on weight fine and otherwise very well I just left it.

missy8 · 10/12/2005 20:06

hi pennies its comforting (not meaning in a good way)to know that other parents have experienced this problem my gp and all other health professionals like yours have said she is developing normally and gaining weight so just leave it,i think its distressing to me more than dd,she doesn't seem bothered by it.

It happened to my dd several times when she was exclusively breastfed. She was definitely not allergic to milk. The only thing I noticed was that each time it happened, she seemed to have a cold, and it took about 2 weeks to clear. Much more worrying symptoms are vomiting and high temperatures - I wouldn't worry if there are no other symptoms.

I always find it amazing that it's such a common thing but some health professionals can't tell you much about it - you'll find loads of threads on this.

missy8 · 11/12/2005 19:58

hi muminlondon im glad i came on to ask advice from other parents as this does seem to be a common problem amongst other children i agree i think it's worrying when they have high temperatures and are vomitting and also i think the doctors were baffled when she was in hospital as to why this was happening and they came up with milk allergy? personally i dont think it is this but i'll have to wait until feb when she see's consultant again.thanks for the input how old is your dd by the way?

missy8, sorry I'm not posting on here too regularly at the moment. My dd is now 2 yrs 9 mths. She had that green poo thing at 4 months and 5-6 months or so. After that she was on solids and she had a bout of pale-coloured beige poo at about 12 months which I also wondered about. But no, that went after 2-3 weeks too. My mum's neighbour is a paediatric nurse and was very reassuring - she just said it was a sign of being off colour but so is a runny nose, and neither is serious in itself. My mum, bless her, also reckoned that as she'd had a cold, all the mucus was dripping down the back of her throat into her stomach so no wonder it looked like snot! Personally I think this is the most convincing explanation I've heard...

daisiesinaline · 15/12/2005 21:09

I very recently did a thread on green poos and didn't really get to the bottom of it either. No-one seems to really know is my conclusion! DS1 didn't have green poos and he was milk intolerant and DD2 and DS3 both had continuous green poos until they were weaned. DD2 was breast fed. DS3 was bottle fed. So I have no idea at all. All healthy and doing fine though so I suppose its nothing to worry about. I am just really curious though!

muminlondon · 15/12/2005 21:29

Maturing digestive system is about the only thing you can put it down to I suppose. We only worry because it's just one more thing we can't control (but in the end we don't need to).
