Varifocals

Got my first pair today, and really don't like them. Any tips on how to get used to them gratefully received!

Wear them for short periods to start with. Don't move your head too fast but do remember to move your whole head and not just your eyes. If however they make you feel sick and everything swims up and down in a wave the prescription is wrong and you need to take them back.

The first ones I had were awful and I persevered for however long you get as a trial before taking them back. The second time I tried them (a couple of years later) I found them a bit odd for a day or so but fine after that.

I agree with Tallulah's advice. I've worn them for about 6 years now and found hard to wear at first, but now I'm used to them and am on my 3rd pair! Good luck!

I've just been back to Vision Express with mine. I got a pair of 'normal' varifocals, and a pair of varifocal sunglasses. The sunglasses are fab - I wear them all the time when it's sunny, driving is no problem, never looked back after the first couple of days getting used to them. However, the normal glasses haven't worked for me. I spend a lot of time reading documents and using the computer, and found I just couldn't get along with them - it's because they have a much smaller frame size than the sunglasses, so the amount of available lens for the reading bit is really quite small, and I couldn't focus on a large enough area of the page for my liking. I've ordered a larger frame size (and, tbh, a nicer frame too), and I'm hoping they'll work better from me.

So, I would suggest you give them a fair trial (they give you 3 months for a reason), but then if you're still not happy don't be afraid to go back to the optician and discuss it with them.
