projectile vomiting

Not sure whether I should be worried or not. My nearly 7 month ds has just had the most enormous, dramatic projectile vomit. He's never been pukey (despite having had reflux, which was the silent version). I have moved him onto follow on milk for the first time this afternoon, and he seemed fine with that. Since then he has only eaten things he had already tried. He has had a cold and has quite nasty nappy rash too. He was happy as larry after the big puke, with rosy cheeks and lots of kicking about (while I was heaving myself having been covered in it!). Is projectile vomiting anything to worry about? Is it 'normal'? Should I go to the GP tomorrow??! Did I stuff him with too much food?? Sorry this is so long ...

Lots of babies do this Olatt. Mine used to projectile puke AND poo!! If he doesn't doit normally then it's very unlikely that he has the medical condition associated with it. (Which I think is usually found in newborns anyway..) He probably has a bug, so it's the puking itself you should keep an eye on rather than the distance he projects it! If he keeps throwing up/is not keeping anything down, get him checked by the GP tomorrow. It could in fact be the change of milk.

If he throws up the next bottle just give him a few ounces of boiled cooled water regularly to give his stomach chance to recover a bit. But if he can't keep that down, get him seen asap tomorrow. Or if he develops further symptoms and you are worried, sooner.

DS did this last Monday night while DH was away for the night and it was really scary. He screamed the place down then once the initial shock was over had not a bad night. He was cutting his 2nd tooth and turns out he had an ear infection, not sure if it was all linked though.
Sending lovely fragrance vibes!!!!

Hmmmmmmm, the smell is awful isn't it. DS did it in his cot then as I lifted him out it went all up the wall and over the carpet. Lots of washing the next day!
