Apparently there is an outbreak of this at nursery (not had official notification yet though). Soome mums are taking thier kids out until New Year as a result to avoid infection.

What is it and is this a sensible reaction?

A friend once had scabies, but I really don't remember what precautions she took. I do know that I couldn't have physical contact with her & her children (cuddles etc) but I still went to visit.

They had to use a lotion from neck to toe to kill them.

Try Here

Hmmm, it is quite infectios, but not actually harmful.

You need to use nit lotion on it though.

They will live on bedding, and clothes. Often on hands, arms etc which is what makes them so infection.

They are little mites that burrow into the skin and itch like mad.

Not as horrific as it sounds though

It's a fairly nasty skin infection. Nasty in terms of discomfort/itching rather than anything more sinister. I would be guided by whatever NHS guidance says tbh re:isolation from others, etc.

Ive had scabies and its blooming uncomfortable. i caught if of my Bf who had caught it from her DP who is a copper and had arrested a tramp who was riddled with it!!
Both my Ds's caught it from me and we had to keep them away from school for three weeks.
The school and nursery issued a notification to all parents and there was a mini outbreak....Ds2 gave it to three other children who then in turn passed it on to their siblings

PottyinaPearTree · 07/12/2005 08:43

My ds2 had it a couple of years ago. Nightmare! Very infectious and the itching can go on long after you've killed off the scabies mite (something to do with them still being under the skin). The stuff you have to use to kill them is horrible and even though the bottle says it's OK with excema, be very careful if you have to use it.

Cheery post for first thing in a morning
