just looking for some opinions on this...
dd2 is 4 years old. She has chronic chest infections (the GP thinks she's got a deficiency of the type of immunoglobulin protecting the airways) and needs to be on antibiotics for pretty much all of winter and a few times during the rest of the year - she really does get very sick otherwise, at the weekend she had a fever of 40C and was using her stomach muscles to breathe, poor thing ).
The type of antibiotic she's got now needs to be given 3x a day. I've asked school to give her a dose at lunchtime - I have a very good relationship with the head teacher and she has agreed to give dd her medicine, but I know that she feels a bit nervous about this. I have looked at the revised guidelines regarding medication in school (the head asked me and let her know what it says), and the main thing is that whilst the teachers are allowed to give medication as long as several requirements are fulfilled, it should be suggested that if a medication needs to be given 3x a day, a dose is given before school, after school and then at bedtime. The problem is that dd finishes school at 3:45, and goes to bed at 6:30. I want her to have the antibiotic after a meal because it can be a bit harsh on the stomach, so giving it straight after school and then at bedtime doesn't really work out, and it's a long time between her morning dose at 8 and the end of the school day.
What do you think? Stick to the midday dose or make school's life easier by going for two afternoon doses?
