UTI would be my guess, pupuce.

pupucelovesruDOuLaph · 04/12/2005 17:45

Yeah I wondered, so what's the deal... how did he get that and how do I fix it?

I used to get lots of them when I was a child and still get them occasionally now - last time I had one I was weeing blood - it was agony!

I think you just need to encourage him to drink lots of clear fluid, and a bit of unsweetened cranberry juice, and get him to the GP with a urine sample.

Good lcuk!

Rare in a boy though.

If I were you, I would definitely take him to the GP tomorrow. Take a smaple of wee with you.

mears · 04/12/2005 17:47

Was he treated at same time for pinworms? If not, it could be that.

My DS3 had a UTI when he was about 4 yrs old. Once he was treated he had to have a scan of his kidneys etc because UTI's are more uncommon in boys. All was well though.

Other reason might be inlamed foreskin - have you had a look. Boys can be prone to irritation there that can make them feel they need the loo. Fucudin ointment does the trick. HTH.

DinosaurInAManger · 04/12/2005 17:48

Meant to say, do you have an out-of-hours GP service - if he is in a lot of discomfort they might see him this evening.

pupucelovesruDOuLaph · 04/12/2005 17:55

He has no discomfort, his willy looks normal. He says he has a tummy ache but not sure if he is serious about this.
I did wonder if it could be pinworms....

Is he constipated pupuce? Ds2 used to get, (and sometimes still does at 14) UTI symptoms when he's very constipated. The extra bulk in the gut can irritate the bladder.

Cadmum · 04/12/2005 18:35

Our DS1 used to get UTIs and I was surprised to discover that one of the symptoms is infact a tummy ache (as well as the need to wee frequently) He always said that it didn't really hurt to wee and the GP was astonished as it usually burns for at least the last bit...

JayzMummysATurkeyStuffer · 04/12/2005 18:39

Ds1 wee'd a lot when he had a UTI. It quickly cleared up but he continued to wee a lot afterwards and was going 20+ times a day. He was admitted into hspital for obs because he was getting in a real tizz when I was making him hold on. It turned out that the UTI had caused his bladder to shrink and he had to have a little op to stretch it again

Cadmum · 04/12/2005 18:41

I found this: An older child with bladder irritation may complain of pain in the abdomen and pelvic area. Here .

pupucelovesruDOuLaph · 04/12/2005 19:08

Thanks Cadmum, DS just said that it hurts below his rib cage... which fits with what this website says....
Besides AB how else can UTI be treated ?
