Quick question: Ibuprofen or Calpol for bringing down a temperature?

I know I can give dd both at the same time but was just wondering which is more effective at bringing down the temperature.

IMHO Ibuprofen is quicker..... and it lasts longer. I always give Ibuprofen 1st, then wait a couple of hours. If they are still a wee bit hot I give Calpol too.

ibuprofen. when DS was full of a cold bug, the Walk-in centre nurse insisted on prescribing some baby ibuprofen even tho I had Calpol in as ibuprofen was better for temperatures.

Much to her disgust, she's now dosed with Ipuprofen.

No - didn't go. Too far away, too much money, too shy, too fat, too much of a wimp and apart from anything else was too scared that no-one would want to speak to me!

Haha! you make me laugh, they are the very reasons i wouldnt go!
Am ok thanks, got some happy pills from the Dr and feeling alot better and a bit more like myself these days. I hadnt realised how down i had got.
Not talking to the evil one either now so another weight is lifted! LOL.

..just wanted to add that if you give ibuprofen, it's best not to do it on an empty stomach (like, middle of the night). I know it doesn't say this on the bottle but I heard a really awful story from a nurse friend about a baby who was given this for a temperature and had a fatal stomach bleed. It really scared me and I only use nurofen with the children if they've eaten. Sorry if that sounds scare-mongery, but it did worry me.

IIRC, paracetamol will stabilise a temperature, Ibruprofen will bring it down.

Glad you're doing OK, Donbean, you sound much happier than last time we spoke. My dd had a bit of a sore throat yesterday but got up this morning feeling wretched with a high temperature, headache and a really sore throat. Lots of cuddles helping with the rest but I have been struggling to get her temperature down.

i've given my son both ibuprofen and calpol. he has been taking (also) on anti-biotic since last friday, but hasn't helped!!!he was okay during the day, but it happened in the middle of nite!!
nearly 2 weeks now, had seen the Dr. twice!!

Any advise pls?
