Pain going down left leg

Not sure if this is health or pregnancy related. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. I am 26+4 pregnant and have started getting a pain in my left leg, mainly when I am in bed. I am only able to get comfortable sleeping on my left side, with the aid of a suppport pillow. But last night I struggled to get comfy. I woke up with a horrible shooting pain going down my leg, starting from my bum! It seemed to go on for hours, but once I was up and about I couldn't feel it anymore. However, this evening, since sitting down and relaxing I have noticed that my bum is starting to ache.

Any suggestions as to what it could be or could be causing it? I don't really want to see the doc as fear of wasting his time.

It sounds like sciatica. I got sciatica once during pregnancy and a couple of times during the first few months after.

When he had sciatica my father used to sleep on a hard surface i.e. the floor but not good for pg woman. It might be sciatica or pelvic girdle pain - see article here

I had this with a couple of my pgs.

It did go, the moment I gave birth.

It was bliss.

I do see a chiropractor regularly, so if this carries on I may mention it to her and see if there is anything she would reccomend. Its just tiring when you dont sleep well at night, then have a 3 year old to look after during the day, then have to work a few hours in the evening. Not that im complaining as I have a wonderfull hubby who helps an awful lot and a job that allows me to work evenings and weekends when my hubby is at home.

I'm sure your midwife or GP would be really understanding if you checked it with them, as shooting pain is also a sign of blood clots (not saying you might have one, just that it's reasonable to get such pains double checked!)
