my 10wk old DD finaly had her 1st vacc yesterday,(long story as to why so late and not done by normal nurse) but the nurse hadn't done babies for at least 4 yrs! I am now worried that she did it wrong.

  1. She took them straight from the fridge. Do they need to be at room temp before being given?

  2. Do they both need to go im.(into the muscle) the needle was at about 45 degrees to her leg and i'm sure just went under the skin and she now has a needle hole and then a long red line and raised lump going away from it? Her arm is also very swollen and bruised?

  3. Will above make vaccine not work properly? Will it cause a problem with the skin?

  4. Am I wooring about nothing?

Polio drops also went on her lips not on back of
her tongue!

10 weeks is not so late!! My almost 2 year old ds2 hasn't had any yet and if he does it won't make any difference to the efficiency.

  1. They should come from the fridge- this is better- you need to worry if you don't see them come from the fridge as it may mean they haven't been stored correctly. In fact when ds1 had monovalent measles the dr made a point of showing me that they were cold.

  2. It is common for swelling and brusing to occur after vaccine reactions.

Wouldn't worry about polio drops either - it's quite common for the babies to spit most out.

Don't worry. It sounds as if they have been administered correctly- and so they have as much chance as any other of working. However if you are worried don't hesitate to take her to the dr.

10 weeks isnt late. my dd2 had her first lot done at 12 weeks, 2nd done at 5months, 3rd at 11months.
i dount the needles went into her leg muscles as they are so chunky the muscles are well hidden.
actually i got a reminder fone call the other day about her MMR, i told the nurse i want to wait a while as she is still 'not quite right' health wise, so am going to wait till her appointments with paediatrics are sorted.

i would not worry - my dd did not get her first lot of vaccinations until she was 17 weeks old.

Everything else sounds fine also.

all sounds fine to me. don't think you have anything to worry about.
